Nairobi National park is already protected by law. It has survived for 80 years beside a city that has grown relentlessly around it. And yet, once again, ordinary citizens are being asked to stand up for the space that institutions were asked to protect. The interim stopn orders have not been extended. That means construction may continue while fundamental questions about this development remain unsolved.
We find that deeply troubling.
Environmental law recognises the precautionary principle for a reason: when there is a risk of serious or irreversible environmental harm, we should not have to wait for the damage to happen before we act. We protect first. A habitat cannot be simply put back once it has been destroyed.
So we are asking KWS for something very simple: Choose restraint.
A court order should not be the only reason to protect Nairobi National Park. Until these questions are resolved, please do not make irreversible changes to this landscape.
And to everyone who has stood with this park over these past months we know you are tired. So are we. But this is exactly when public attention matters most.
Keep asking questions.
Keep sharing evidence.
Keep documenting what you see.
Keep the conversation alive.
We will continue our advocacy. We will continue watching. And we will continue using peaceful avenue available to defend this park.
Nairobi National Park is still here.
So are we.

Another win for the environment and conservation efforts. 🌿
We welcome the Court's decision to halt the proposed road through Ngong Road Forest pending the hearing. Protecting forests and sustainable development must go hand in hand.

KWS officers have turned out in force to stop us doing a court mandated site visit today. I had no idea how dangerous I am. Guys in masks with guns, people. #SaveNNP
Our focus should be on the real change-makers: ordinary Kenyans. I have seen first-hand how citizen-led advocacy works. Effective community organising and strong local leadership have resulted in positive change for communities.
