Igual ao Odisseu, Percy vence pela astúcia tanto quanto pela força, enganando Polifemo para escapar da caverna.

A Maldição do Titã - Hércules

Nesse o Percy assume fardos que não são dele, e a imagem central do livro é segurar o peso do céu, a mesma tarefa que Hércules cumpriu ao enganar Atlas durante os Doze Trabalhos. A missão para resgatar Ártemis ecoa os trabalhos hercúleos de perseguir criaturas míticas específicas, como a corça de ouro que aparece na trama. Assim como Hércules, Percy aprende que a força serve para carregar o sofrimento dos outros, e não apenas para vencer batalhas.

A Batalha do Labirinto - Teseu

O Percy entra no Labirinto de Dédalo, a mesma construção que Teseu atravessou para matar o Minotauro. Ele depende de uma guia com fio condutor, papel que Ariadne cumpriu para Teseu e que aqui aparece na forma do barbante de Ariadne e da Rachel. Como Teseu, ele descobre que o verdadeiro perigo do Labirinto está muito mais nas escolhas feitas por ele lá dentro, e menos no monstro do centro.

O Último Olimpiano - Aquiles

No último livro o Percy mergulha no rio Estige e ganha a invulnerabilidade de Aquiles, incluindo o ponto fraco único que pode matá-lo. Ele vive o dilema aquileu da profecia sobre a própria morte aos dezesseis anos, lutando uma guerra que parece ser a última coisa que ele vai fazer na vida. A diferença entre os dois (e que o Rick Riordan quis deixar como a GRANDE COISA da saga) é que o Percy recusa a glória imortal que o Aquiles escolheu e prefere uma vida comum ao lado de quem ama.
