Checking in with a fun story from school... one of my son's teachers told me she thinks he's probably the smartest kid in the whole school.
She's probably exaggerating, but it does my mama heart good to know I'm not the only one who sees past the speech issues.
@indafckitbucket Thank you for being such a great cheerleader π He's doing wonderfully in school. A little smarty pants. Aces his spelling practice test every week so he gets free time when the other kids are taking the real test and they're sending him home with 5th grade math worksheets.
Me: Good morning!
7: Good morning
Me: How are you feeling today, baby?
7: Happy
Me: Do you want to go to school today?
7: Yes, please
Me: Great! What do you want for breakfast?
7: Pancake and eggs and sausage
My (formerly nonverbal) baby conversing with me is EVERYTHING.
@indafckitbucket Yesterday, when we picked him up, his teacher had a recording of him saying something to her she didn't understand... he was saying, "Do you want to play math bingo?"
It's how he asks for things. He phrases it like the question he wants you to ask him. But he's asking!
7 was not happy about stopping his computer games, multiplying 2-digit numbers and creating contractions, to do 3-digit addition and practice his spelling words (that he aced on the first try).
My 2nd grader is already bored with his 3rd grade homework.
My 2nd grader is going into a general learning disabilities class for grades 3-5 instead of the autism specific class for K-2! His teacher picked this Minecraft backpack for him. (We're very lucky he's in a school that provides backpacks and supplies)
School starts next week!
We did it! We made it through first grade! My amazing little dude adapted to every change and challenge. His speech and academic progress have him moving out of the autism class and into a general learning disabilities class... for 3rd-5th graders.
I'm so proud of this kid!! π
First day in another new class for my son. We haven't met the aides. The teacher changed the drop off routine last minute. There wasn't anyone there to take my son to his class like we were told there would be. I'm not happy. This is not okay.
