"Sharjeel's case is therefore interesting beyond Sharjeel himself. It raises a broader question about whether we are willing to engage with Muslims as political thinkers with diverse and sometimes uncomfortable ideas, rather than reducing them to predetermined categories. Intellectual disagreement is possible without ideological caricature. And perhaps that is precisely the space that needs to be reclaimed."
@sanjaysaahu021@neha_aisa So? Your opinion does not change laws. FIR and police procedure toh sabke liye same hai na? Investigation ke baad apna sada muh kholna
While ECI in its statement on Sept 26 said that “The declaration attached to Form 6 for SIR has been upheld by the SC”, today SC has clarified that they have not approved the modified Form 6.
All these while CEC Gyanesh Kumar was defending himself with the argument that there was no illegality in modifying Form 6 as SC itself has upheld it. That defence fell flat today.
Reading this clarification from SC along with the objection from both the Election Commissioners, shouldn’t CEC Gyanesh Kumar be held responsible for unilaterally changing Form 6 ?
The Election Commission of India is under fire like never before.
The SIR has struck 13 crore names off draft rolls, putting the EC at the centre of intense public debate over its role in deciding who gets to vote — and who doesn’t.
HOWEVER, what nobody knew: through that same period, some of the sharpest questions were being asked from inside.
Out today, after months of work. Our #ExpressInvestigation 🧵

Why should Sahil have to prove that he was an exceptional student before we defend his right to be treated with dignity?
When we defend Sahil by pointing to his grades we risk accepting the very logic that failed him that a student has to be exceptionally successful to deserve dignity. He shouldn’t have needed an 8.5 CGPA, good school marks or an IIT Bombay record to prove that he mattered. An academic infraction is an academic matter. Even if someone is found to have cheated it does not erase their humanity.
Across Indian universities privileged and upper-class students make mistakes too. They cheat on tests, plagiarize, proxy attendance or sometimes use family and alumni connections to get themselves out of trouble. Some are reprimanded, some get another chance and some simply move on.
Almost everyone has cheated at least once. No one gets to pretend they have always been a saint.
But for a Dalit student an allegation can become something much bigger. It can become a confirmation of prejudices that were already waiting to be imposed on him.
He deserved dignity before anyone knew his CGPA.
@CeodelhiOffice@ECISVEEP Anybody who has asked written response from govt knows this is how they answer everything- without actually answering anything....
My rather long stream of consciousness in response to Sanjay Hegde’s op ed on Tribune today re the Bombay HC judgment in Tejpal. I was, frankly disappointed by that piece. Why do men with otherwise progressive politics get gender politics so wrong? https://t.co/qmP6YoNPvc
Looks like Mahmood Farooqui got a legal notice issued to X to take down many posts, including mine.
I wasn't even talking about the man. I was talking about the judgment.
X gave me an opportunity to respond to the take down request, which I will
But here's your Streisand
