My favorite complaint from a student occurred yesterday “why can’t we just get a sheet of paper and be done? Your work is too hard. I don’t feel like thinking.”
I just remembered the time I was teaching AP statistics and near the end of class I wrote the word “assessment” and laughed. I knew then class was over and to start over the next day.
“PBIS makes educators feel like they are doing something to address the problem while still protecting them from admitting the role they play in perpetuating racial inequities in discipline in the first place, and prevent them from changing the racial structure itself.”
This whole thread! When the dentist told me “how about just dentures” I cried, but thankfully living near a dental school, students still care about fixing teeth and it’s more affordable.
I wish @nature and other primary research journals could offer articles with differing Lexile levels so 9th graders aren’t as intimidated or frustrated with scientific language and texts.

Me: in 9th grade my English teacher handed me their copy of A Handmaid’s Tale. We are not the same.
..those four (or more if there’s others I don’t know about with abilities in electricity and magnetism) to hypothesize how their powers work based on science. Are kids still into superheroes?
I’m currently down a rabbit hole about Storm (next will be Thor, then Magneto, then Black Lightning) to maybe teach electricity and magnetism is a more interesting way. Or, since labs are going to be difficult to do or maybe impossible this year, have them choose one of those
Urban and inner city education won’t get better unless you rid of complacency and laziness within administration and teachers. Tired of the excuses that are out of the schools control as to why instruction and materials can’t change.
I want to expose my physical science freshmen to amazing things people of color have done/are doing in the fields of physics and chemistry. Any one willing to have them email/interview you about your life and work for a graphic essay? #education#Science#STEMeducation
What happened to the pay scale in the science industry? I swear when I worked industry before I taught, it was A LOT more than the offers I see currently.
