Today, I joined the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat @drobafemihamzat, his wife, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, and other stakeholders, during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in FESTAC, Amuwo-Odofin LGA.

Lagos is intensifying efforts to build a more efficient, sustainable and accountable waste management system across the State.

With over 200 compactor trucks that the state government has just acquired to strengthen waste evacuation, the Ministry is also working round the clock to address challenges at landfills, dumpsites and critical waste collection points, while continuing engagements with PSP operators to improve service delivery.

We recognise that residents’ willingness to pay for waste collection is directly linked to the quality and reliability of the services provided. Our intervention is therefore focused on ensuring that the system works better for everyone.

We must also discourage the patronage of unregulated cart pushers, whose activities often result in indiscriminate dumping on medians, roads and drainage channels, with serious consequences for the environment and flood management.

A cleaner Lagos requires a collective effort. Government will continue to provide the leadership, infrastructure and regulation needed, but residents must also take responsibility by properly disposing of their waste and keeping their surroundings clean - not only on sanitation days, but every day.

Yesterday, Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu together with his Deputy and Lagos APC Governorship Candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat @drobafemihamzat, his running mate, Princess Damilola Sonayon James @JamesSonayon and other Political Leaders visited both the KOH Campaign Office and Renewed Hope Presidential Campaign offices, both located in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

Mr Governor says everyone from all campaign offices, down to the Local Government and Wards are working together for the party, APC to re-elect Mr President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the Governorship Candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and all other APC candidates across the state for the 2027 General Elections.

It was a pleasure joining members, scholars and faith leaders today at the University of Lagos for The Companion’s 7th National Discourse.

We had a candid conversation about national development and the role of faith-based organisations in shaping Nigeria’s future. Progress is definitely about good policies but it also requires character and genuine collaboration between government and our communities.

In Lagos, we will continue to support meaningful conversations that encourage understanding and help us find practical solutions to the challenges we face.

Every nation arrives at a defining moment when the decisions made in rooms of power begin to echo across generations. For Nigeria, today may well be one of those moments.

At the Federal Ministry of Education on Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure, it became clear that this country is no longer simply talking about reform; it is building the architecture for it.

It was an honour to join other distinguished leaders, including the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; UNICEF representatives, scholars, and envoys at the invitation of our host, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.

In my remarks, I congratulated His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his exceptional ability to identify and deploy talent where it is most needed. Moving a seasoned professional like Dr. Alausa from the Ministry of Health to Education is proving to be a masterstroke for generational transformation.

What I witnessed today is far more than a presentation; it is a fundamental shift. The Ministry of Education is migrating from a fragmented analogue system to an automated, data-driven, and efficient model.

This initiative will enable us to ask the right questions and deliver precise solutions on critical issues such as out-of-school children, targeted resource allocation, and measurable outcomes.

Data is the bridge between what is and what ought to be. From our experience at the Ministry of Interior, we have seen its transformative power. In 2023, we faced a high rate of recidivism in our Correctional Centres. Through robust data systems, skill-set audits, entrepreneurship training, and strategic rehabilitation programmes, we have recorded significant reductions and are working relentlessly towards our target of zero recidivism.

The same data foundation will strengthen education, enhance citizenship integrity, improve human capital development, and support national security. This is how Nigeria will successfully transition from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy. Quality education remains the foundation for producing world-class professionals and driving socio-economic development.

I congratulate Dr. Tunji Alausa and the entire Federal Ministry of Education team for this bold and timely reform. You have done this not only for the Ministry but for the future of our dear nation.

In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we remain partners in delivering lasting impact.
