JMPD officers arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly tampering with municipal infrastructure after he was caught cutting copper cables outside the Public Safety Headquarters in Martindale.

The suspect was apprehended following a foot chase after JMPD’s Tactical Response Unit was alerted by surveillance camera operators.

A second suspect escaped and is still being sought.

The recovered copper cable was seized, and the arrested suspect is facing charges of tampering with municipal infrastructure at Sophiatown SAPS.

JMPD says it remains committed to cracking down on infrastructure theft and vandalism, which disrupt essential city services.
