What's wild about this story is that the author CONTINUES to claim that underperforming urban schools are the result of "underfunding" and "institutional racism."

The awful school she sent her own child to in a moloch-inspired exercise of sacrifice to the gods of race communism receives *$52k* a year per pupil in funding.

The most expensive private elementary school in San Francisco, Cathedral, is a comparative steal at $50k a year.

Public teachers (and administrator) unions are a grift feasting on the bodies and minds of young people.

And just to prove the point - the woman who was the principal of the failing elementary school in question now holds...you guessed it....a well paid administrative sinecure.

@geauxt17 I generally don't go to the French Quarter unless I have to - that may change if the state follows through on taking over "homeless services" and starts actually dealing with the problem.

Word on the street was the Garden District Association got all in our neighborhood business and blocked the last attempt because it was proposed to have short term rentals above the store, and they didn't like that for Garden District reasons.

I think one of the saddest things about modern childhood is the loss of cartoons as inheritance. I grew up watching Scooby-Doo reruns decades after it first aired. Kids today have more content than ever, but perhaps less shared cultural inheritance across generations.

2) a software eng whose job has completely changed in the span of 1 year

All this is going to do is hurt the most disadvantaged kids.

Kids with parents who understand what AI is and where it's going will thrive. They will help and support their kids from home, just like they always have.

Kids who are constrained by the opportunity presented by backwards, reactionary school policy will fall behind, at a time when we're moving so fast that falling behind means falling totally off the radar.

This isn't like "no personal cell phones in schools." I applaud that shift back to sanity - cell phones and apps kids are shepherded towards (tik tok, etc) are basically dopamine slot machines.

Banning "use of AI" in schools is like banning saws in shop class because you're worried about kids safety.

You're right - I've seen my career completely upended by llm tools (am software engineer, former teacher) - it's coming for us all, and for whatever reason it's now a red/blue culture war front (data centers, Elon, etc).

Anti-AI is not a tenable position.

Best accept it and learn to use it.
