The NAIMOS Taskforce on Monday, 17 November 2025, conducted major swoops on several galamsey sites at Obuasi in the Amansie Central District.
Acting on credible intelligence, the NAIMOS Taskforce raided and secured sites at Anyankyirem, believed to be a legally acquired mining concession belonging to Asante Gold Corporation, which had been forcibly invaded and occupied by illegal miners from Amansie, denying the company rightful access to its concession.
The Taskforce further raided and secured other strategic areas around the Obuasi Airport, where illegal mining activities were reportedly ongoing. Some mining equipment, including motorbikes, vehicles and water pumps, was seized, while several makeshift structures and additional equipment were destroyed.
Although the illegal miners fled upon sighting the NAIMOS Taskforce, one person suspected to be a key organizer of the illegal mining operations at Obuasi was arrested and is currently in police custody for investigation and subsequent prosecution.
