It's civil and criminal liability that Anthropic and OpenAI are worried about. Not to destroying humanity, destroying the company in bankruptcy, liquidation, and potentially prison time. If their AI agents "go rogue", attack large portions of the internet, doing damage, shutting things down, they are liable.
It is the vicious dog that hurts someone scenario, AI-version.
If own a dog, and that dog attacks someone and hurts them, you incur civil and potential criminal liability. Your attack dog could bankrupt you and potentially put you in jail. Happens all the time across the US.
Anthropic and OpenAI want government regulatory oversight the same way the FDA gives regulatory control over vaccine makers. In exchange for oversight and approval, the vaccine makers get shielding from liability/being sued when their vaccines hurt people. Congress essentially gives them civil and criminal immunity. That's what these AI companies really want immunity for when their models attack the internet.
@dhh@satyanadella Personal limiter for not using Linux as main daily driver: Teams is not seamless enough even with Teams Chrome web app installed. I tried this with Mint half a year ago but reverted back to Windows because of Teams not being seamless on Linux.
There's no problems blocking Linux desktop adoption that we can't fix with frontier agents, a fired-up movement, and ten+ million dollars. We can fix everything.
@thsottiaux Started using codex cloud and vs code extension approximately when they launched. Had ChatGPT subscription so easy to try out.
Especially vs code extension has been great, fits my needs, and still in use. Have been trying to use codex windows app but it is super buggy with WSL.
@gregorykennedy I'm open to moving away from it but what I'd really like is something that looks at both parties calendars and suggests a few openings.
Do any of the competitors do that at a reasonable price point?
My conversation with Google Assistant today:
Me: "When will you get more intelligence?"
Google: "Sorry, I don't understand."
Yeah... Come on @Google@GoogleAI, try harder.
@JosephJacks_ Parents are doing a huge amount of unpaid work that benefits the economy. Probably governments will get this at some point and start compensating parents with amounts that are closer to the economic value of parenting.
I just came across it by chance by spotting this really nice article:
"Let's get phygital! - CIOs need to prioritize digital-physical convergence, says Accenture"
