4th generation Garden Center owner. AI-native developer/entrepreneur.
Retail Garden Center Platform + Jim AI: USDA Hardiness Zone 6b expert, more coming!
Independent garden centers deserve better technology.
I’m James Cressler—an AI-native software engineer and entrepreneur building Thryve.
Independent garden centers do highly specialized work. They manage living, seasonal inventory; weather-driven demand; complex plant data; fragmented supplier catalogs; case packs, minimums and freight thresholds; and customer questions that require local horticultural knowledge.
Yet much of the industry is still expected to piece that work together through generic retail systems, spreadsheets, PDFs, email, disconnected supplier portals and institutional memory.
Thryve’s mission is to build modern, domain-native technology around how garden centers actually operate—not force garden centers to adapt to software designed for other industries.
🌱 WHAT’S LIVE: THE THRYVE GARDEN PLATFORM
Live at Rolling Ridge Nursery as Rolling Ridge Rewards, our customer web and mobile experience connects loyalty, purchase history, digital membership and rewards, and My Garden—a living record shaped by purchases and saved plants.
The same platform supports garden-specific staff workflows, including customer and loyalty context, delivery quoting and training.
At the center of the customer experience is Jim AI, a garden intelligence assistant—not a generic chatbot with a green theme.
Currently focused on USDA Hardiness Zone 6b, Jim can:
• Hold responsive, streaming conversations
• Use photos to help identify plants or investigate visible problems
• Account for a customer’s plants, purchase history, location, season and weather
• Retrieve grounded horticultural knowledge from trusted local institutions
• Connect care guidance to relevant products in the garden center’s current inventory
More zones are coming.
📦 WHAT’S IN ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT: THE PROCUREMENT PLATFORM
The next layer tackles the operational side of garden retail.
The current build synchronizes inventory, cost, price and sales data; measures inventory health, produces explainable replenishment recommendations, compares supplier offers, handles case packs, minimum order quantities, pricing and freight rules, and builds approval-controlled purchase orders.
It also supports supplier-document review, confirmed-incoming tracking, physical receiving, and controlled, auditable updates to inventory, cost and retail pricing.
The platform is being built around garden-retail realities that generic procurement systems often miss: live-goods profiles, location-specific assortments, substitutions, central buying and store transfers.
🧠 WHAT POWERS THE MISSION: THE THRYVE AGENT FABRIC
Supporting these products is Thryve’s proprietary Agent Fabric—a six-role ecosystem consisting of Manager, Chat Bridge, Knowledge, Development, Infrastructure and Database agents.
Jim serves customers through a dedicated chat service. The Agent Fabric supports the knowledge, engineering and operations around him.
It continuously grows and monitors a trusted horticultural knowledge corpus, routes bounded work to specialized agents, watches system and data health, and gives us reusable infrastructure for building and operating intelligent products—with human oversight wherever decisions matter.
We are not placing AI on top of disconnected legacy workflows.
We are building a connected, intelligent operating layer for garden retail—from the customer relationship to procurement and receiving.
Garden retail is our proving ground. The broader mission is to bring modern AI-native software to technologically underserved, real-world industries.

@thsottiaux I’m developing a platform to help independent garden centers turn sales and inventory data into smarter buying decisions: forecast replenishment, compare supplier offers, build and approve POs, process supplier docs, receive stock, and safely update inventory, cost, and pricing.
