To all of my subscribers and my peers in the financial publishing industry:
I launched @Porter_and_Co in July of 2022 with about $500k in capital.
Shortly before we emerged from 'stealth mode' I told a room full of leading fin pub copywriters and publishers that I intended to start a company of my own. I talked about my vision for a business that would earn its subscriptions not with copywriting flimflam (the direct quote was "I fucking hate copywriters) but with extraordinarily valuable content.
I built @Porter_and_Co to succeed with editorial quality, not egregious marketing. And I knew to do that I didn't need many people -- just a few of the very best. I was determined not to make the mistakes that had cost me control of Stansberry Research -- far too many people and too many products.
I'm proud to tell everyone that @Porter_and_Co has been an incredible success. We just celebrated our 3rd anniversary. We have over 100,000 total subscribers and almost 10k "partners" -- clients who have made a commitment to stick with our business, year after year.
The real test of our abilities isn't what we were able to sell. The real test is the value we were able to provide for our customers. It's that value that's the basis of our renewal income, not any of the marketing.
Our first "report card," which as long time subscribers know is an audit of our track record, was published this month, on our third anniversary. (Three years is long enough to provide a realistic evaluation of our recommended portfolio's results.)
What most fin pub companies won't tell you (because it doesn't sell) is that investment success is all about survival. It has nothing to do with finding the next hot stock. The winners know: the game is all about minimizing risk.
Our lowest-risk opportunities nearly doubled the return of the S&P 500.
They returned 83% on average (29.3% annualized), compared to matching S&P returns of 44.6% (17% annualized). Our #2 and #3 ranked opportunities returned 30.7% (18% annualized) and 28.5% (15.5% annualized) respectively.
Making 15.5% a year... with your third best ideas... is pretty extraordinary.
Likewise, when you look at our results by business category (instead of risk ranking), our best performing industry was property & casualty insurance (P&C) -- and industry where I've built the leading advisory business in the world.
As I've explained for almost 20 years now, P&C offers investors extremely low volatility (beta: 0.8-0.6) and market-beating returns on equity.
Our recommendations (WR Berkley, Progressive, Skyward, Kinsale) have delivered average returns of 66% versus 27% for matching periods in the S&P 500.
We've more than doubled the S&P's return (with P&C) and we've done so with less risk.
We have a first class product. We do business in a first class way. Every time our customers or prospects interact with our content (whether paid or free) they're getting research that's written by the world's leading expert in that sector -- like Marty Fridson in distressed corporate debt and Erez Kalir in biotechnology.
All of our content is brand positive -- there's no ridiculous hype or ludicrous promises. It's just extremely well-researched ideas that will make investors money, period.
To the thousands of investors who have trusted us to be one of their research providers, you have my heartfelt thanks. I hope you see the difference in everything we publish. It's an honor to serve you.
I would love for you to comment below on the things you like about our new company and how it's better than the other providers you subscribe to. Of course, that's only if you agree.
To the brilliant members of my team, you've built an incredible business that serves its customers faithfully and well. You've provided far more value to our subscribers than the cost of our products. You've created an enormous amount of value. You have every right to be proud of what we've accomplished.
If you're in the fin pub industry and you'd like to join a team that's truly the best of the best -- the best products, the best culture, the best business model, and the highest quality customers - I hope you'll reach out.
We don't need or want many people. And we don't need to publish another product, just because we might. Our goal isn't more revenue. Or more profit.
Our goal, as I said before our launch, is to: produce the very highest quality investment research available anywhere, at any price.
That's a "moat" that makes our business one of the best in the world. And every decision I make in business starts with thinking about how that moat can grow wider and deeper.
We charge a premium for our content because it's worth it. We have the industry's leading ARPU. And we also the industry's leading conversion and renewal rates.
If this sounds like where you belong, send me a writing sample, a brief description of your perfect job including how much you'd like to earn and how you'd like to be compensated.
And again, thank you to everyone that's created this amazing success.
F. Porter Stansberry
P.S. If you were in the room that day back in 2022 -- at the copywriting conference -- tell me the truth. Did you think I'd succeed?
There is a very very small window to buy digital art from established and newly established respected artists at reasonable prices. A very small window ... consider this a warning.
🧵 Reverse Repo has dropped from $2.5T to $148B.
No, that’s not a typo.
That’s the Fed quietly injecting more liquidity than any pivot headline could ever do — and most people still haven’t noticed.
Let’s break down what’s coming…
@RaoulGMI I think that this is absolutely spot on. I was thinking the same yesterday. Still have a small bag of ETH, from when it could still be mined. My gut feeling on ETH was that it would rotate back at some point. There is just an awful lot of stuff worldwide built on ETH
@RaoulGMI The Turkish Airlines lounge at Dulles Airport has one of these. My wife likes to follow it around to help it out when it encounters vacant tables with plates and silverware.
@RaoulGMI The Turkish Airlines lounge in Terminal B at the Dulles Airport has one also. Now my wife helps load it. Was that the intention all along, to get the humans to clean up after themselves?
Meanwhile, whilst enjoying my morning noodle soup at my hotel in Singapore, an autonomous robot silently glides past my table on its way to take dirty plates to the kitchen, whilst effortlessly dodging all the people in the crowded hotel restaurant...
The future is now.
