This picture of Sanwo-Olu(A Christian) sitting quietly while Muslims prayed is why the concept of religious extremism and intolerance as a Yoruba man will forever be alien.
We grew up in homes where both religions shared a bed every night. My grandmother who was a devout Christian never missed traveling to Mecca every year with my grandfather.
During my time as an undergraduate at the University of Lagos, Ramadan was important to us all. DLCF, RCF, CACYOF friends would wait patiently by the mosque from 6:40pm for prayers to be over, collect meal tickets (which is free), sit down in the mosque and eat with our Muslim friends. We never felt out of place. Our Muslim brothers never complained. Instead, they would call if they ever noticed your absence. We were so interwoven because we saw people as people.
This is how religion should be practiced. My closest friend is a practicing Muslim. He has never tried convincing me to be a Muslim and I have never tried convincing him to be a Christian. The mutual respect is what typifies religion in Yorubaland.
The Yorubas have cracked a code decades ago that many societies have not cracked - there is NO superior religion and we are all serving the same God.
This has worked wonders for centuries!

Under the same economy, Sanwo-olu built railways and provided trains. He built railway stations. Built bus terminals and provided buses. Initiated, started, and commissioned mass housing projects, including three estates with 1000 units at Gbagada, Odo-Onosa Ayandelu and Agbowa. Built flyovers and overhead bridges, as well as roads. He also built and commissioned schools and hospitals. And then increased workers salary by 20% while providing palliatives and subsidised rice.
My question to you is this: What has your Governor done with the increased federal allocation, which has increased by 69% since fuel subsidy ended in June 2023? Yet, you want to protest hardship. If your Governor is collecting increased allocation and has not increased salary, Tinubu is not up or problem. Your issue is in your state capital. That is the source of your hardship!

Because of the ongoing necessary reforms and their hostile but temporary side effects, I have decided to dedicate today to all of us, the masses of Nigeria. We are always at the receiving end of austerity measures put in place whenever the greedy elites have squandered or collective resources. From Operation Feed the Nation to Shagari's Austerity Measures. From Babangida's Structural Adjustment Programme to bearing the unprecedented international sanctions that accompanied the government of Sani Abacha.
The corruption of subsidy from 1999 till 2023 has eroded both our oil boom days and recovery of Abacha loot. We are incredibly indebted. The debt is far bigger than our infrastructures, yet 97% of our revenue is being used to service the debt, only 3% is retained by us, may we not be doomed! May we not eat the future of our children's children and have our bodies turned in our graves due their curses!
Just in the 70s, General Gowon declared Nigeria as a rich nation, he said "our problem is not money but how to spend it". Within 10 years, we were broke beyond imagination and hasn't recovered till date. Those first set of military personnels threw us into a wasteful war for 3 years and most of them became stupendously wealthy without explanation and also, stupendously powerful and untouchable. Some shared our oil fields among themselves, others turned Operation Feed the Nation farms to their private assest, one even withdrew directly from our external reserves into his private account. The politicians are not better too, their mission to serve has been to acquire ill gotten wealth and take their family members far away from the reach of poverty they created. Our story has been that of wicked leaders in uniforms and agbada!
The citizens themselves are not better. Afterall, leaders come from among us. We are wicked to ourselves, always looking for a way to cheat one another. Short cut to protocols. Hate mongers, crumb eaters, law breakers etc. We are always waiting for our turn to steal too.
President Bola Tinubu has decided not to be a popular president but a leader that wants to be remembered as revolutionary. Although, he promised us abundance, he also informed us that the journey would be tough and torturous, he said we would protest but he would not stop his action geared towards economic freedom, agbadovolution, security and well-being of citizens. He said we must increase our income so that the 3% can be expanded and there will be more left for us after debt servicing.
We are extremely hungry and starved at a time Tinubu is busy in the kitchen. Unfortunately, he's still gathering up the ingredients, we are yet to smell the aroma talkless of eating the food. Until that period when the food will be ready for all and results of these stringent reforms will grow beyond palliatives, I've decided to suspend my birthday celebrations and continue my normal posts.
Good morning to all Progressives only.
Applied for Nigerian passport renewal in the London passport office. My biometric was 12th Feb 2024, and I was surprised to get it today, 16th February 2024. Less than 4 days. This is one of the changes Nigerians ask for. Kudos to @nigimmigration@NIUKCommunity
Buhari Destroyed The Economy. Tinubu Is Trying to Restore It. That's just the honest truth. Even our oil sales are useless to us now, because Buhari sold them in advance and pocketed the money.
This is because he borrowed more than all past governments combined, until our debt service to revenue ratio was so high that even China stopped lending us money. The exchange rate was being subsidised with $1.5 billion every month. What you saw then was not Naira's actual value.
Buhari lied to you about our foreign reserve position. Those funds had been used to guarantee loans and purchases. Long and short of it all is that Buhari would have jailed President Jonathan if Dr Jonathan had done half of what Buhari did. Buhari did not run a government. He ran a criminal enterprise that turned his former recharge card selling nephew into an overnight private jet flying multi-billionaire.
We, in the opposition know this. But some of us are playing politics with it because they lost the 2023 election, and as far as they are concerned, if they did not win, Nigeria must collapse.
@shesanbello@Moyeni_bj@Omojuwa Ogun state has the worst roads in the country, so they are far from emulating a rail project. Gateway state where all the roads entering the state are not motorable
@Moyeni_bj@Omojuwa They didn't decide to be stagnant, what Lagos is achieving today took over 20years of planning and mentorship by BAT and several other sound minded lagosians. Later some people will say what did Tinubu do in Lagos
