Today I turn 44
Here are 20 things I would tell my
24 year old self if I could
In no particular order (except #1)
1. Spend more time with your
brother. He is your best friend
and he is going to be gone way
too soon
2. Don’t buy that 100k car, it
wasn’t worth it
3. Go on more great vacations.
Experiences are worth far
more than things
4. Make yourslef write things down
it’s the only way things won’t
slip through the cracks
5. Lifting only was a mistake,
keep the cardio up
6. Forgive your parents now,
you waited too long
7. Visit grandma more, she
won’t be around much longer
8. Get your moms recipes, you
are going to miss her cooking
when she is gone
9. There’s nothing good waiting
for you outside after 10pm. Go
to bed, not to the club
10. You have 2 ears and 2 eyes, but
only 1 mouth. Listen and read
to undstand, not to respond.
11. You don’t need to carb up for
45 minutes of exercise
12. Focus on mobility & fluidity
of movement not just strength
and muscle mass
13. Don’t argue with strangers on
the internet. You aren’t chanigng
anyones mind. Plus, Those are
precious hours you can
never get back
14. Helping other people is how
you will help yourself and
find your purpose. Chase that,
not money
15. You hate morning workouts
now, but you’ll adjust, and they
are the key to being consistent
16. How much food you eat
impacts how you feel &
perform, but so does food
quality. Cut most fast & highly
processed food
17. Leave work on time. Your
productivity is crap after that
many hours and you’re just
spinning your wheels to
“look like a hard worker”
18. Eat less frequently, not more
frequently
19. Stop escaping into video
games. Level yourself up,
not your character
20. Coworkers are many, friends
and family are few, know the
difference and invest time
accordingly
I actually update this list and reflect on it every year on my birthday.
We accumulate a lot of wisdom over a lifetime, but we often forget and repeat past mistakes.
I don't intend to do that and revisiting and updating this helps.
