Prometric Testing Center’s “accommodation” for a nursing mom to pump during her 4hr in-training exam is a $40 “pop-up shower tent” that can be found on amazon. no table, no outlet, no light. what a joke.
Interesting article- but what also needs to be discussed is how private practice docs in NYC, docs just as much on the front lines, are getting completely left out of the vaccine rollout. If you aren’t affiliated with a hospital you’re completely out of luck right now.
The first vaccine doses were supposed to go to the most exposed medical staff. But at one NYC hospital, line jumpers quickly appeared. https://t.co/Brn9bxnpia
@kari_jerge Agreed. Twitter doesn’t bring out the best in people. There are many great surgeon allies out there on this issue. And there are many anesthesiologists who would gladly have an open conversation about this fraught topic too.
@kari_jerge Agreed and responses got intense pretty quickly. It is a super important issue that I do hope you continue to investigate- and I’m hoping that you are able to have some respectful dialogue with people about it.
@kari_jerge Yup I hear you. You got some harsh responses that made respectful dialogue difficult. I’m hoping to keep the line of communication open about this issue since it’s so important for patients.
@kari_jerge Just trying to explain some of the blowback you got from other anesthesiologists. If you don’t know much about this issue the ASA has lots of resources about it and it’s a huge focus of our advocacy efforts.
@kari_jerge The public has trouble understanding this issue- we could better advocate for our specialty. But it doesn’t feel good to have a colleague, especially one in the same OR, question the value of a board certified anesthesiologist- which was how the survey came off.
@kari_jerge And I will say to the other docs on here, especially those who feel safe in procedural specialties, I am a pain doc and they’re coming for us too with independent practice. This is a patient safety issue we need to be united on as fellow docs.
@kari_jerge I would never! (Anesthesiologist). 1. Their training isn’t remotely equivalent. 2. To those who say ok if sedation only or no paralytic- that is exactly the kind of case where things can go south in the blink of an eye! 3. To the surgeons- you really want that liability?
@dfreedman7@kari_jerge Level of sedation is a continuum and it’s easy to cross into a bad place quickly especially with an unprotected airway. Some of the “easiest” cases can go south incredibly fast. I always would want a board certified anesthesiologist who understands this managing the case
