Am I a minority?
I like and enjoy the radio hobby.
The ham radio licensing system makes sense to me.
I'm not against nets. I'm not against POTA. I don't have anything against CBers or GMRS. I like QRP, and I also like legal limit power. All of it seems to have a time and a place. SSB voice rag chew? Go for it! DX contesting? Knock yourself out! CW at breakneck speeds? Respect! Have you bought your antenna? Good on you! Built your antenna, radio, and amp for three dollars out of junk box parts? Genius! Digital FT8? RR 73! Part of a club? Donuts and coffee are fine by me! Are you a lone wolf on a frozen summit somewhere in the wilderness? I hope to have the privilege of adding you to my log!
The operating methods, modes, equipment, industry, and governance of the hobby typically make sense to me. If they don't, it's typically due to my ignorance.
I'm not panicking about the hobby's condition, and I don't have any legitimate ideas for revamping the system.
Sure, it's not all perfect out there. I've encountered intolerance, gatekeeping, and malicious interference (jamming). These things are not good. But in my opinion, the hobby is not broken. It is what it is and I'm happy to be a part of it!
I wonder, though, if my thinking in this way makes me a minority.
