So so sad, she was only 66 and it was so quick.
Apparently her sister is going to take Flintie.

With sadness we announce the passing of Em’s beautiful girl Baby last Sunday 💔💔💔 I am writing this on behalf of Em as her heart is beyond shattered this week 😢

Baby was abandoned in a drug dealer’s garden, the RSPCA declined to help as she was displaying guarding behaviour at the property and it was being referred to the police which would have meant a firearms unit. We were contacted by a lovely lady who had been feeding her over the wall and through the gate for several days. She was not showing any aggression towards her and she had called her Baby.

We collected this beautiful girl and whilst it was clear she wasn’t dog friendly she bonded with Em immediately. From that day forward she became Em’s Baby – and for almost 7 years Em has been her mum and her world, and Baby has been affectionately known as Babes.

Back in the day Baby was a force to be reckoned with and couldn’t mix with other dogs. She glady accepted Em’s friends and family into her world but woe betide any strangers. We took extra measures to secure her areas and her exercise was walks on the lane. Every Sunday Em and Tracey would take Baby and Zara on a 4 hour walk, and through this Zara became friends with Baby.

Baby definitely preferred the bull breeds to street dogs or any dog with an unstable energy. She was able to go on walks with so many staffies who were passing through the rescue, never wholly trusted, always a little extra distance but it worked wonderfully. Then along came dutiful Homer from Spain, whose dad had been sent to prison. Em knew Baby would like him and the rest is history, he became Baby’s companion in life after Em adopted Homer to enrich Baby’s life.

In the last year Baby really mellowed and to our amazement started to rehabilitate other dogs. Who could have imagined her making streetdogs like Fitzroy and Pepper safe. She has let them cuddle with her and been completely chilled with their presence in a room. It is truly quite unbelievable and shows a dog’s ability to change as their energy diminishes.

Baby was a truly incredible dog – universally loved by everyone who knew her. But no one could have loved her more than Em and in a final act of love she took her to the emergency vets on Sunday – better a day too early than a day too late. It was her time 💔

Rescue is an incredibly hard life sometimes. Em went to Irlam on Monday to cover for staff members who were sick and make sure Smokey could have his exercise. That she found it in herself to do this after such a devastating loss is testament to her dedication to the rescue dogs.

Your forever mum will love and miss you forever Babes 💔
