This morning I got an IUD from an excellent provider who practices trauma informed care, provides topical lidocaine, and generally made the process as easy as possible. I still had a vasovagal response (from pain) and hours later it still HURTS
We deserve better from healthcare
IU is calling me in to a Office of Student Conduct meeting for the very serious crime of... saying words after 11pm???
I'm being forced to go to a meeting where I'll be able to "accept responsibility for the decisions you made and the harm that was caused"
Can't make this up!
I think @KojiChavez did a similar thing for sociology faculty. My organizations nerd self would LOVE to see something like this for more academic disciplines, particularly where logics of meritocracy are often used in hiring decisions
For students applying to PhD's in Clinical Psychology:
Are you worried about applying to smaller/less prestigious programs because of the academic job market? I was too during my cycle, so I analyzed 1300+ current clinical faculty across 100+ schools (& made graphs; 4/8 here):
Just met with a possible provider who told me I wasn’t ill enough to be considered for her chronically ill support group. I understand fit/dynamics are important but the way she framed it was off-putting
“Go to therapy” is such frustrating advice when getting access is SO HARD
Is your department looking for a medical sociologist or social psychologist? Perhaps a social networks scholar? Check out my work, I happen to be on the job market this year :)
Plus, several of my incredible peers at IU are too, check us out @IuSociology

#AcademicTwitter does anyone know of data repositories or data sharing programs for qualitative data? I went alt ac and would love to share or collaborate with others using my dissertation data so it doesn’t get “lost” but not sure how to do that.

My faculty harasser, who was found guilty of violating department and university policies by IU Title IX, was not banned from IU Bloomington campus. He was only banned from department space/events. Not banned from campus as a whole.
And yet this student was banned for 5 years.
UPDATE: A student protester who was arrested today has been banned from IU Bloomington’s campus for five years according to a photo of the trespass notice.
@idsnews
We are monitoring the situation at IU Bloomington where police officers are detaining peaceful pro-Palestinian protesters.
The First Amendment is central to our democracy. Suppressing these rights through unwarranted police action weakens our society's commitment to free speech.

Biosociology folks: I have a student who’d like to do research on the intersection of genetic & social forces as predictors of cancer. Any datasets you can recommend? Bonus points if they don’t require too much cleaning, merging, etc. #soctwitter
“One cannot have the benefits of being seen as an ally without the potential for risk of reputation nor can there be effective apologies without sincere acknowledgment of harm”
Sociologists need to reflect on this message and what harms we continue to do for allyship optics
I’m in the ER (I’m probably ok, but being careful) and I had heard about the slow motion healthcare crash, but witnessing it is something else. The system feels like it’s barely holding off a collapse it’s not peak flu season. So many sick/hurting people, so few staff 😢
@jarrettrose4 2/ I’ve heard good things about https://t.co/Xcc80d9e0z but haven’t personally tried it. If they are doing their interviews via Zoom, the auto transcript has improved significantly over the last few years.
Good luck to your students! Transcribing is a painful rite of passage 🤣
@jarrettrose4 1/If students have a Microsoft 365 account, word online allows 400 minutes or unlimited recording and transcribing. It’s AFAIK only in the online version and depends on the plan if it’s unlimited or 400 words. But I found it very accurate. You can also upload an audio file easily
