@TerenceUlster@officialgaa@JeremyFrisch@MichaelGerardD 2/2 once holy communion/Xmas play kick in😳
As coaches we will coach movement in nursery cause no Go games etc;
My own unscientific observations is once GO games kick in less exposure to FMS we need to find a balance😊
1/2I’ve termed this ‘Movement behind the skill” for every @officialgaa solo or puck out we do what movement make up that sports skill🤔
@JeremyFrisch puts it better that I can & why I love the work of @MichaelGerardD 👏👏
As coaches we can easily coach the GAA
There are many kids who aspire to be good athletes, but they are seriously lacking in physical skills. They spend too much time on the sport and not enough time building the foundation to be good at that sport, (especially at young ages). Not a week goes by that a young athlete doesn't present deficient in some movement skill. These are simple things that are so important...how long can you stand on one leg?...How low can you squat down on one leg?...Can you do a pushup?...Can you do a pullup?..Can you jump in the air and land without collapsing into a heap...can you skip...bear crawl..hop on one leg? All these movements give a snapshot of athletic ability. This is why early exposure to movement training is so important these days. Improved performance is just the tip of the iceberg, injury prevention, overall health and having a sound body and mind, that will allow for the enjoyement of activities for a lifetime. Time to get moving!

@TerenceUlster@officialgaa@JeremyFrisch@MichaelGerardD 1/2Regards school (I’ll talk primary) yes that are marked out as above BUT kids don’t use them -however they do play evasion games but regards exposure to hop, skip squat etc the exposure is minimal😭;
Culd teachers do it in PE possibly but PE is taken away
2/2 skill BUT children nowadays need much more exposure to the movement skills in a FUN way;
Gaining exposure to movement skills allow easier coaching of the sports skill leading to a happy child & a less frustrated coach😂

@PlayerGaelic 1/2 We all know the benefits of sharing ideas the question is “why” coaches don’t share🤔;
We want success/player Dev for our club yet don’t come together to go thru ideas😭
Imagine the medical profession adopted this approach there wuld be uproar & righly so
@ChisieWeirdo@MyCoachJourney Totally agree fun warm up-I had U15 girls with swim noodles cut in 1/2 playing chasing in large box changed taggers every 40 seconds!
Result-laughter-breathlessness-dodging-teamwork-body space awareness-speed & not a run in sight😊
@RJPcoach Yup we all know it BUT it’s thevdoing that can be hard-the only way to get better is coaching in different environments/teams & yes sports!
Biggest curse on a coach is “imposter syndrome which I thankfully got the better of but only when I got outside my comfort zone😊
@PlayerGaelic 2/2 now I have her teamed with a player looking to improve kicking passing and it has worked well🤔
Another player continually tried to beat players a quick work(literally ) & was sorted👍
Think we feel it takes time to coach individually when in reality it’s time well spent😊
@PlayerGaelic 1/2 I wuld classify myself as a “learned” coachbut it’s only this year I have started coaching individual players to improve their weaknesses🙄
Our Capt had stopped kick passing cause shots were so inaccurate boiled down to standing foot not pointing where she wanted ball to go
Excellent article from @ICOACHKIDSWORLD using a Holistic approach to Talent Dev Env or Developement Squads be it soccer Gaelic/cricket
Feel hard to do when so much pressure on coaches succeed
Short term pain v long term gain
Maybe it does happen?

@nbaldwin75 I too was reluctant to coach my daughters team but going into my 3rd year I have learnt so much; given me confidence, people, planning, listening & communication skills;
More importantly father daughter relationship has got stronger cause of it❤️
@Referee_coach 2/2 with comments spoke with his daughter and all was good😊
My wife witnessed a U13 game similar to ur daughters match football where match wa abandoned & ref went of crying -my wife still regrets not going to comfort her😭
@Referee_coach 1/2Go games U9 football (we were away team) noticed ref wasn’t using the whistle too much no one said anything but we were asked for ref feedback!
So thankfully rather than go to red herself I went to a home parent on our sideline
Turns out he was the refs father had no issue
@mattyoung101 agree -Our Gaelic season is coming to an end -19 girls I have 3 hours a week; but some of these girls play multiple sports adding another 3-4 hours into mine!
No issue I will let some of these girls skip sessions but as we come near the summer break pleas take a well earned rest
@PlayerGaelic Spot on Go games in a nut shell small pitches BUT also teams can be playing more than the recommended number of players as don’t want subs
This further reduces space and the kick pass
@3dancingfeet 2/2 the girls much more interested in cooperating & having fun; find I have to encourage them@more to get involved, where as the boys they just jump straight in😊
@3dancingfeet 1/2-Havnt read the piece from@my experience I wuld concur with “girls been more cooperative “
In my school tasked with taking 12 girls 1 day & 12 boys another!
Boys are so competitive that I feel at times it’s hard for them to cooperate with each other
