@Amar4Odisha I agree with Jairam Ramesh. When it was visible that COVID-19 onslaught is coming back with much higher vigour, elections and Kumbh Mela could have been postponed.
@Jairam_Ramesh It is indeed inexcusable. Orders of Apex Court and NGT were flouted right under the nose of Police personnel. The fault lies in the system itself. Why to issue licences for storage and sale of firecrackers? It is more painful to political parties flouting the rules.
@AshwinkumarMEF Coal fired Power plant emissions - SPM can be easily and best controlled by using washed coal of lower ash content. So is the case of SOx. Sulphur in Indian coal is very low, 0.50% only and Washing of coal removes a good part of it. FGDs are not required.
@AshwinkumarMEF All environmental laws in India are copied from west or made topside down, without taking stock of ground realities. Same is with new norms for SPM, SOx and NOx.
@Jairam_Ramesh Government should be very prudent in spending money on such projects that can be deferred and have no immediate benefits. This is the time to review all such projects of the government and also of CPEs. MSMEs need immediate support.
@Jairam_Ramesh With regard to Mumbai power failure, presumptive sabotage is not a wise step. Power systems, as the time passes, need regular maintenance. There seems to be a neglect in maintenance as the power companies are shy of maintaining the grid and transformers.
I applaud Uddhav Thackeray-ji for finally deciding on this and saving the Aarey ecosystem, so valuable to Mumbaikars. I grew up in this area and I am very well aware of its value.

@AshwinkumarMEF Government has to address much bigger challenge in getting the economy back on track. MoEFCC seems to having different priorities. So sad.
'Nirbhay Fund' is already there. Probably utilisation of this fund is negligible. Creation of a new Fund is not required. State government must, I repeat must, ensure that the local police and the administrative machinery must be sensitive and fast to catch culprits.
@DrSYQuraishi Thank you Qureshi Ji for sharing this very nostalgic information. I have seen Pai, Dhela and old Paisa in circulation. You may also recall bright red coloured seeds called ‘Ratti’ being used by goldsmiths for weighing gold in fractional units of Tola.
@AshwinkumarMEF Vinash kale vipreet bhudhi. Government must focus on economic recovery. Environment compliances can wait. MoEFCC should immediately commission @ independent plantwise study to find out which plants really need to install FGDs etc and which can @ compliance using washed coal.
