No, this is not true based on the most recent available data for 2024. Beaumont, Texas had 16 homicides in 2024, resulting in a homicide rate of approximately 13.9 per 100,000 residents (using a population estimate of about 115,000). In contrast, Chicago had around 573-591 homicides in 2024, resulting in a homicide rate of approximately 21.5 per 100,000 residents (using a population estimate of about 2.665 million from local police data). This means Chicago's homicide rate is actually about 55% higher than Beaumont's, not the other way around
