Your trading strategy alone is an edge, but part of it. Any viable trading strategy won’t be unique. Anpther part of your edge lies in your ability to effectively implement that strategy. Without being able to do that, the edge a strategy might offer, evaporates.
Take, for instance, the traders who participated in the Trading Turtle Experiment initiated by Richard Dennis and William Eckhardt in the 1980s. Dennis and Eckhardt were highly successful traders who believed that anyone could learn to trade if given the right rules to follow.
They set out to teach a group of individuals with no prior trading experience, dubbed the "Turtles" a system they used. This systems provided them with a potnetial edge in the markets. The Turtles were instructed in how to apply it, they were given a specific set of rules that encompassed entry and exit points, position sizing, and risk management. Furthermore, the Turtles were provided with capital to trade it, and were overseen.
With a solid framework of successful, well-defined rules to follow, one would expect that all participants would generate profits. While the overall results of the Turtles program were impressive, not every trader was able to make it work. Some, like Jerry Parker—the most successful Turtle—and Curtis Faith, who authored the book "Way of the Turtle," achieved extraordinary results. However, nearly half of the participants reportedly failed to attain positive outcomes and left the program.
This clearly illustrates that while the trading strategy offered the potential for success (an edge), the true edge came from the traders' ability to effectively implement that strategy. 💰
The markets today are far more efficient than they were in the mid-1980s. While inefficiencies in the markets that offered opportunities still exist, they are fewer in number and more diverse. They are also detected and closed more rapidly by arbitrage, algorithmic systems, and the swift adoption of AI. Additionally, gains are now more widely distributed among a vast group of players, whereas only a select few had the ability to capture them back then, making those opportunities more sparse.
What this means is that the ability to effectively implement any strategy that has an edge is increasingly crucial; it requires ongoing work, honing, and sharpening.
When you see a pattern repeat itself 3 times,
And it was not a part of your plan,
Stop there.
Go and backtest it and gather 2 years data on it.
Make refinements and set rules.
You have a new setup.

ONLY RESULTS GET PAID
In trading, it’s important to understand that only results get paid. It doesn’t matter if you put in 10 hours or 100 hours or 1,000 hours. If you still make the same mistake, you don’t make PNL.
I’ve trained so many traders that put in tons of effort and fail. Why? BECAUSE EFFORT IS ONLY PART OF THE EQUATION (and sorry to say this, but effort is actually the EASY part!).
Effort is totally useless unless it is effective and translate into results. Sometimes it takes time for the effort to translate into pnl, but only pnl gets paid.
What makes effort effective?
The effort needs to be:
-in areas that translate to results
-executed in ways that lead to changes
If I lose money fighting the frontside trend and then I spend 100 hours reading equity research reports, guess what? Tons of effort, zero effectiveness.
If I put 5 hours into fixing that one mistake and now avoid fighting the frontside? Way less effort, but way more effective.
The second part leads to PNL! Less effort, but magnitudes more EFFECTIVE!
Take a golfer. It isn’t a question of how many balls you hit at the range. If you hit 1,000 balls w the same shitty mistakes, you’re just cementing bad habits.
Trading is a results-oriented game.
Effort is NECESSARY. But it is always SECONDARY to whether that effort leads to positive changes that result in PNL.
That is also the fallacy behind the misinterpreted 10,000 hour rule. There is no magic number. What matters is putting in deliberate practice into areas that lead to real changes for the outcome you are trying to capture, PNL!
So if you’re putting in tons of effort and not seeing improvement, you need to put in the thought to make sure your effort is in the right areas and also make sure you are building systems and processes so that your effort leads to improvements where it matters.
It's been more than 2 YEARS since my trading journey started and I am a totally different trader now.
I have gone through a path of MISTAKES and successes that have led me to profitability and becoming a full time trader.
I have written a PDF explaining the MISTAKES that held me back for months and how I think now about them so you can become a beast.
Like, RT & comment "Mistakes" and I will send it to you.
Must be following
Might get pushback on this tweet, but that’s okay because this is just the truth.
My entire life I’ve been a “truth seeker”, seeking the perfect me, the perfect perception of the world around me. How I can create the life I dream of.
I love philosophy and psychology and have spent a lot of my reading time focusing on these subjects.
But recently I came to the realization of something.
The life that you want, the person you want to be, the peace that you want to live with, comes from nothing besides Jesus Christ.
Period
Always journal your trades
Not only for the learning experience
But for the drive it will give you to look at your progress
It does so much for you
And you will realize...why quit?
I have come so far
I was just backtesting before bed, and suddenly, it clicked.
I’ve spent countless hours backtesting my model, but out of nowhere, I discovered something new.
It’s crazy how you can analyze the same thing over and over, and then suddenly, you find a detail that can literally take you to the next level.
Dear trader,
You used 2024 to develop your craft, you made mistakes , had many trial and errors , you stayed up late nights to put in the work, you showed up everyday, you started noticing patterns in the market. 2025 will be the year you start to see the fruits of your labor! Everything is going to click. Once you gain that momentum don’t lose it! Time in the markets is all you need! You’ll see showing up everyday actually means something. You’re forcing your brain to retain information hence you starting to notice patterns in the market. YOU CAN DO IT, YOU GOT THIS!
Sincerely your fellow trader , Jay
One of the reasons we don’t realize the progress we made is once we do make some sort of progress, we raise the bar.
We make more progress and raise the bar again.
This makes you feel like you’re stuck in the same spot… when in reality you’ve blown past your first level many times over.
One of the biggest lessons I learnt this year
If you can redirect (attention to the awareness of attention and the source of this awareness) you’ll experience a pure unadulterated state of consciousness free from all social and personal conditioning which form beliefs. This state is free of labels and mental conditioning and is wholly pure.
In this state one becomes open to all experience. Positive or negative are labels which do not exist here, all that exists here is simply the experience, which is not conditioned by the ego as attention is raw in this state and not being filtered through any lens. So all is welcomed.
So instead of holding beliefs about how life should be, you allow life to be as it is and you’ll interact accordingly
When you hold beliefs which have been conditioned into you from the external world you’re essentially telling God, no God I have this under control and by proxy he says okay and let’s you live out that pre constructed plan.
When one is open to all, God is able to bring forth the catalysts you need to shed old conditioning, to bring out more of your unique strengths and become a more uniquely potent expression of beingness.
The more and more you can be in this pure unconditioned state, the more spontaneous, miraculous and perfect life becomes to become and the more of who YOU really are starts to shine.
Happy New Year
