@TaulaAj @BoneysDr Women had a lot of violence put on them for how they needed to act and appear during this time. A scene that really stood out to me was when they explained that a virgin woman would be married and then raped before she would be executed so a small dowry would be paid. So cruel.

@tambrosi @BoneysDr Yes! She had this big moment in her life she was finally sharing with her parents but the years of lies & secrecy that her parents kept between themselves took that moment away from her. It makes me wonder what her relationship is like with her mother now with her sexuality.

@tambrosi @BoneysDr I agree! She goes above and beyond than the typical illustrations that we are used to seeing. She did a great job with telling her story with her images so we could get a total “picture” of her narrative.

@BoneysDr I thought this did a great balance of both! I think when dealing with content that’s so vulnerable it’s really effective to use comedy as a way to internalize it more. These pages show a good balance of humor and the gender identities they both struggled with. #WGS5810 #WGS4810

@TaulaAj @BoneysDr Based on the relationship Alison had with her family I think it made sense to disclose her coming out via letter. I think regardless of how she came out it wouldn’t have changed the reaction that came from her Mother. #WGS5810

@tambrosi @BoneysDr I feel for Bruce, being trapped in an image that was never himself which explains his strain with Alison.I think they had this unspoken bond but because one was living a lie & the other was trying to live their truth they never were able to have a solid relationship. #WGS5810

@BoneysDr I think it was appropriate because she notes how she uses fiction to understand her family, especially her father. So many of these literacy influences reflect her understanding of her father and his own self identity struggles which leads to her own self discovery #WGS5810

@BoneysDr I thought it was a creative strategy to address such vulnerable topics through “cartoons”. Sometimes in order for us to handle difficult subjects it needs to be done through a softer lens. Music does this too, like Foster the People & their song The Pumped up Kicks #WGS5810

@BoneysDr Her words added a lot to the narration but then her illustration would add so much more to the storyline. Something I enjoyed that she does different from others is the little attention to detail in her illustrations that she would point out with her arrows. #WGS5810
