Hokuto found fame as an Actor and Vocalist of the hugely popular chart-topping, history-making, top-selling Group SixTONES! A magnetic performer, he's especially admired for his unique deep growl voice, known as "death" voice in Japan. Hokuto has been key to SixTONES huge success with chart-topping albums, sold-out dome tours, and a string of No. 1 hits. Hokuto has also risen as a critically acclaimed actor and voice artist of remarkable depth. From his captivating voice role as Sōta Munakata in Makoto Shinkai’s beloved Suzume, to award-winning performances that earned him the Japan Academy Prize for Newcomer of the Year (xxxHolic), Best Actor at the Kinema Junpo Awards (All the Long Nights), and the prestigious Elan d’or Award, he continues to enchant audiences with his charisma, versatility, and undeniable star power. Matsumura is from the Shizuoka Prefecture and is also an incredible sportsman with a black belt in karate to his name, after winning several tournaments. He ranked 2nd in the prefectural tournament, qualifying for the national competition. In 2009, he gave up his martial arts career to concentrate on becoming a star. He was motivated to send his application to the Smile-up talent agency (formerly known as Johnny & Associates) because he admired Tomohisa Yamashita so much after watching the drama Kurosagi. He has become a hugely popular Actor and voice Actor in his own right, and has starred in 12 movies and 2 television dramas so far!

Hokuto joined Johnny & Associates in 2009 and made a CD debut as a part of the temporary units Yuma Nakayama w/B.I.Shadow and NYC boys. In 2012, he made his acting debut in NTV's 'Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou' and was praised by the famous founder of Johnny Entertainment, Johnny Kitagawa, for his amazing acting! He then co-starred in TBS' golden hour drama 'Kuro no Onna Kyoushi'. In 2013, Matsumura was ranked 1st in the very popular idol magazine Myojo's annual poll "Jr's Most Wanted As Lover"! From March 2014 - 2016, he starred in 'Gamushara', Johnny's Jr new TV variety show produced by TV Asahi!

SixTONES was formed in 2015 when Hokuto, along with his bandmates performed in "Johnny's Ginza 2015". That same year, he co-starred with bandmates Jesse and Juri Tanaka in their first lead roles in the movie Vanilla Boy which premiered nationwide in September 2016. Along with SixTONES, Hokuto has starred in several musical stage shows including the long historic Shounentachi, each year since 2015–2017 with Snow Man. Matsumura's first voice acting role was in Suzume starring as Souta Munakata! His latest movie is '5 Centimeters per Second' in which he stars as Takaki Tōno!

SixTONES officially debuted as a group in 2020 with the release of their history-making single "Imitation Rain", composed and arranged by X Japan's legendary Yoshiki, which sold 772,902 CD copies in a single day, eventually crossing one million in a week, topping the Oricon Chart. On July 22, 2020, SixTones released their chart-topping album single 'Navigator', which became the opening of 'The Millionaire Detective Balance: Unlimited'. "New Era", was released on November 11, 2020, and became the OST of 'Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon'! SixTones released their first album, '1ST' on 6 January 2021 and topped both the Oricon Albums Chart and Billboard Japan Hot Albums Chart, selling over 467,000 copies in Japan in its first week! Their 2nd album, 'City', was released on January 5, 2022 and spawned their 4th chart-topping single, "Boku wa Boku Janai Mitai Da", released on February 17, 2021, which became the theme song for the movie 'LiarxLiar'. One song from the album, "Rosy", was used as the theme song for the Japanese dub of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'. On January 4, 2023, SixTONES released their 3rd studio album 'KOE' which topped the Oricon Albums chart selling 517,203 units. The album was certified 2x Platinum by the RIAJ. In 2023, SixTones collaborated with Yoshiki to perform "Imitation Rain" in the amazing documentary film 'Yoshiki: Under the Sky'. On January 24, SixTONES released their 4th studio album 'The Vibes' which topped the Oricon Albums chart, selling 496,565 units. In April, 2024, SixTONES, officially joined Starto Entertainment, a new agency. On January 15, 2025, the group dropped their 5th Oricon chart-topper, 'Gold', which has sold 422,041 units so far! On March 19, 2025 SixTones released its 14th Oricon chart-topping single "Barrier" and went to #1 once again with their 15th single "Boyz" in June 2025, followed their 16th single "Stargaze" (September 2025), their first best-of album "MILESixTONES -Best Tracks-" (January 2026), and the 17th double A-side single "Ichibyo / Rebellion" (March 2026). SixTONES has released 6 studio Albums and 17 singles so far, all of which went to No. 1 on the Oricon charts. They have sold 6.5 Million physical records in Japan so far!

Six Tones are also a Powerhouse Live Act! In 2025, they embarked on their first hugely successful "five dome tour" which kicked off at the Tokyo Dome on January 24, visiting Fukuoka, Osaka, Hokkaido, and ended in Aichi on April 14 2025, after 13 sold out shows!

Hokuto has won several awards as part of SixTONES. These accolades highlight the group's commercial dominance, vocal strength, and cultural influence in Japan. They won New Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for "Imitation Rain / D.D." at the 35th Japan Gold Disc Awards (2021), followed by multiple Best 5 Album wins for 1ST (2022), CITY (2023), and Koe (2024). Additional honors include GQ Men of the Year Pop Icon of the Year (2020), the Television Drama Academy Award for Best Theme Song ("Kokkara," 2023), and frequent Oricon chart-topping successes. On March 19, 2025, the band was honoured with the prestigious MTV VMAJ "Group of the Year" awar

Hokuto serves as a popular brand ambassador for Daiichi Life Group since late 2025, anummy hair care (Feb 2026), Shizuoka Prefecture’s 150th anniversary (2026), SHIRORU skincare, Marugame Seimen udon, Pokémon/Nintendo, and SoftBank.

Hokuto actively supports charitable causes through SixTONES, most notably co-hosting the 46th Radio Charity Music marathon in 2020, which raised over 90 million yen for visually impaired support, and serving as part of the group’s 2026 Charity Partner role for NTV’s 24-Hour Television.
