A lot of you are asking what a weGo Smart Card is..
A weGo Smart Card is contactless payment card for public transport in Uganda, designed to enable cashless, tap and go fare payments on buses and trains.
You load money onto the card using mobile money or FlexiPay, then use it when boarding public transport. Instead of paying cash, you tap the card on a machine and the fare is deducted instantly.
There is no need for cash or searching for change. The system uses contactless technology similar to what is used in modern transport systems in cities like London.
It makes travel easier because boarding becomes faster and payments are automatic. It also helps you track and control how you spend on transport, while reducing risks linked to handling cash.
In simple terms, you load the card and use it every time you travel by just tapping and going.
Last week, @otolosedrick joined us at the @innovationhubug to get a closer look at how KaCyber Tap and Pay is changing travel payments in Uganda’s mass transit sector.
KaCyber is bringing a faster and safer boarding experience to the Kampala commuter train through Tap and Go technology integrated with @mtnmomoug and @RailwaysUganda Corporation.
This goes beyond digital ticketing. We are reducing cash handling risks and helping commuters move with speed and convenience.
Practical innovation. Built by Ugandans for Uganda.

Transport payments lose efficiency when cash dominates. weGo Smart card changes this with tap and go payment experience. across the system. Each trip produces a digital record, building a transit digital footprint for informed decision making and national security.
#KaCyber
Behind every transport system is strong infrastructure. #KaCyber builds enterprise software using cloud services and on premise data centers. This supports different operator needs while keeping systems stable, scalable, and reliable for daily transport operations.
During the concluded National Science Week, it was highlighted that transport is changing, with people increasingly expecting speed, safety, and convenience in their daily movement.
It was noted that the weGo Smart Card, powered by @KaCyberApp , is transforming transport payments by enabling passengers to travel cashless through a simple tap-in and tap-out system that calculates fares based on distance travelled.
According to the presentation, the system reduces boarding delays, removes the need to carry cash, and creates a smoother experience for both passengers and operators.
Passengers were encouraged to top up their cards through the KaCyber Go app, https://t.co/XUS60MgQjN, or authorized agents, as part of the growing shift toward smarter and more efficient mobility solutions.
