@ThisisKaia@StephenKing In the mid-80s, my 4th grade teacher (age 60-something) called my mom because I was reading 'smut.' The book in question? Clan of the Cave Bear, honestly pretty tame for me then, because I was also reading horror & hard sci-fi. Mom laughed - she gave me the book.
@AutisticCallum_ 2nd grade. Where the teacher routinely handed out worksheets with two questions and a paragraph of instructions about how to mark the answer, then had us trade papers, grade each other, and she'd say what grade for each mistake. I will never forget, "And one's...an F!"
@AutisticCallum_ My oldest child was "too manipulative" to be autistic at 4. I've since learned that manipulation is a complex skill that kids don't actually grasp until much older...
@StructuredSucc Bought a convenience store "drink cooler" fridge that fits under the counter. Intended for leftovers, but COVID hit & things got weird. Now has fresh fruit & grab-n-go snacks so everyone can see them.
Ooof. And yet, I've literally said that a specific person in my past really had to be imagining how they thought things were, rather than seeing reality
@Walcandy1@AngieMaxwell1 There's no rational reason it can't be the rest of us middle aged folks and older folks saying enough. Just stubborn pig headedness, as my dad used to say.
@Autistic_Lia Spending time practicing smiling.
I was told that I needed to "smile better" and I didn't realize that everyone else just smiles and it comes out "right."
So. You know that feeling when a chronic health issue flares up, and the typical treatments for it set off other problems, so you're just trying to figure out how to survive long enough under treatment to get things sorta fixed but not really? Yeah...
@stuffysour True. I suspect my ability to understand heavily accented English is tied to other auditory processing differences, but making an effort to understand makes for better relationships
@chrisharrisons@Phil_Lewis_ No they wouldn't. Armed protestors we're in the Michigan state capitol 2 years ago and plots to kidnap & murder the governor were discovered, and no laws came from it. People attempted insurrection over the election, people were shot and died, no laws. I hate this place
@LouisatheLast Yup. I could move to Canada. We live on the border, I have coworkers who commute to our employer in the US daily.
My autistic children would not be allowed.
