Independent reading is not about a level; it’s not about a certain number of minutes. Independent reading is that reading we do that helps us develop independent thoughts - not thoughts directed by anyone else.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and followed along during our pre-conference day at #LiteracyforAll2019! As you reflect on the day, read this blog on more opportunities for thoughtful talk during book clubs and other instructional contexts. https://t.co/bHerolz8M3 #FPLiteracy
Love this. Who needs a worksheet to know the level to which kids are making meaning if their text?? Whether in guided reading, Interactive Read Aloud or book clubs ... listening to kids talk to each other gives us insight to their understanding. #LiteracyforAll2019
