I never realized how much religious practices have grown with social media. Charity Nebbe's podcast "Religion In The Digital Age", Nebbe shares something that I found amazing, which is how many FaceBook groups are being used as social gatherings for prayer! #HerlihyEME4390S23
"...an 11-country median of 64% say people should be very concerned about exposure to false information-." (Pew Research Center, 2019). Coming across false information, happens WAY too often. Technology has made it very difficult to trust what you see online. #HerlihyEME4390S23
Political propaganda has grown so much with technology. Being able to piece things together to make a party look bad has never been simpler. "Many think technology has made people better informed-but also easier to manipulate". (Pew Research Center, 2019) #HerlihyEME4390S23
The reality of technology and its effects on communication, especially during social distancing. Technology has interrupted the experience of face-to-face interactions #HerlihyEME4390S23
"For people of colour, 38 percent said they were harassed based on their race and color", "Almost 88 percent of the LGBTQ+ users agreed with being bullied because of their sexual orientation". These statistics are a prime example of an online divide...๐https://t.co/tcUcsEuNpU
"Women are particularly marginalized, with roughly four out of every five still offline in the least-developed countries." So, women fall victim to violence & abuse more often online AND a majority of women can't access the internet? smh https://t.co/J4hPfm3lvq #HerlihyEME4390S23
This graphic shows how Covid-19 and the inequality of internet access affects student-aged individuals from furthering/starting an education. We've all complained before about having to go to school, but imagine not being able to attend at all. So upsetting. #HerlihyEME4390S23
"But for many women, Twitter is a platform where violence and abuse against them flourishes, often with little accountability." The article: https://t.co/pzSu2zoE0Y illustrates a great example of marginalization, specially on Twitter towards women. #HerlihyEME4390S23
This article provides great insight towards the inequality of internet access around the world. It's truly sad to see that people cannot obtain an education as a result of this inequality. https://t.co/eNxIqKdIPR #HerlihyEME4390S23
Back online after my 24 hour disconnect! Honestly, never again ๐ Itโs sad to see how much I rely on my phone for daily entertainment ๐ฌ #HerlihyEME4390S23
@Manfredo_Boba Yeah, props to him, but it's too late. I'm at the point where I don't believe any news I see online, unless I see the same thing hours later on the news. I wish it were easier to trust news on social media because it's so much faster than waiting for news channels to catch up.
@BrodieMongon This part of the documentary really shocked me. I would've never thought that search results could differ depending on your location. This is probably why so many people can never agree on certain things. We're all being fed different info...
It's sad that society thinks in a short term mindset, where many things are worth more dead rather than alive and all that matters is profits. @SocialDilemma_ on Netflix illustrates that we're leaving the world worse for future generations, and I totally agree. #HerlihyEME4390S23
One thing I've failed to realize before watching @SocialDilemma_ on Netflix is the fact that technology and the online world can affect everyone, even those who aren't online. We can see this with issues on technologies relation to election hacking #HerlihyEME4390S23
Wow. @SocialDilemma_ on Netflix portrays this idea of Remote Control Warfare, where one country can manipulate another country online. It's crazy how the countries with free online access can possibly always be in grave danger or a threat every time we log on. #HerlihyEME4390S23
In the Documentary @SocialDilemma_ on Netflix the short segment about Kyrie Irving really shows the impact celebrities have on people online. We've all fell down a rabbit hole about an idea, and I feel its more often when the idea is acknowledged by celebrities #HerlihyEME4390S23
I find it crazy how depending on where you live, your google search results can be different. @SocialDilemma_ documentary on Netflix provides an amazing example by searching for information on climate with results differing depending on the state you live. #HerlihyEME4390S23
