It was quite hard to initially figure out how to code my own apps when I started. A lot of Apple developer videos, tutorials & stack overflow till it clicked. So much easier now with AI! But that foundation has still proven to be really valuable now though.
AI makes lots of things easier, but people hate design that looks like it was AI generated! So I don’t use AI for actual design, just for occasional inspiration
I remember how happy I was when I got my first $$ from a subscriber 2 years ago. It was when I first realized that, hey, people actually want to pay for something I've built! It gave me hope that perhaps this indie app thing could be a viable path after all.
Back on twitter / X ! After leaving @duolingo I did a lot of travel and have been building apps as an indie developer. Eg this: https://t.co/pxZOkIeeAm. Will continue to post more here about what I've been up to!
Someone needs to start a company mass producing enoki mushrooms in the USA! Prices are now ridiculous… >3x vs pre-pandemic and also 10x vs Singapore prices
1/ Tuesday was my last day as CEO of @CircleUp. I’ve been CEO since starting the co. in 2011 with my co-founder @roryeakin.
This is a thread about what happened, why and my emotions about it. For more detail:

Much of this I have never talked about.
QR codes can serve a lot of purposes, but ultimately they feel like a relatively low-tech, scrappy solution. I do not enjoy the experience of pulling out my phone, tapping on WeChat/an app with QR scanning functionality, aiming the camera and waiting for an in-app browser to load
I am very positive that the travel industry will have a huge rebound. And travel stocks still remain at multi-year lows despite the S&P 500 reaching record highs. If you can stomach the risk and have a longer term horizon for investing, now's a great time to buy these stocks.
Ever since Google Play stopped working on the Huawei phone I bought in China, I’ve switched back to using my iPhone 6S. It’s 5 years old (bought right before I joined Duolingo) but still a really solid piece of tech. Could prolly last me till 2021 replacement cycle if I wanted.
