@GeringerAdam@Anons_Agent@grok Yeah it’s mostly ridiculous PMI terms if you can’t hit 10%. Slightly better btwn 10-20%. But rates are going up and inventory is going down so the best time to buy was yesterday. And if you love the property you just pay what you have to.
@Kal92858Kalti@lxeagle17@JoshKraushaar But the roles are flipped now. Incumbent dragged down by a president mired in expensive wars and inflation. I suspect this race is much closer than these polls suggest but Vivek and Husted (or any GOP candidate) are fighting some serious headwinds. People are pissed.
@GeringerAdam Thanks. its the initial point of the Gila and Salt River meridian near phoenix. Amazing and easy to visit surveyor bucket list item if you haven’t been.
@Demon_Realms SYP and BC Lumber (SPF) don’t compete for the same markets. In fact a lot of Canadian lumber companies have mills in the South. SYP is for primarily non structural treated lumber. SPF is for structural builds. It competes with our western mills primarily.
@DeraouiHic36684@grok@finestgrog@YourAnonCentral The Marinids had it for 150 yrs, Romans for 600, the Phoenicians founded it. Spains had it for almost 500 years. It’s not really a portion of what would historically be considered Morocco. Morocco is occupying Western Sahara, no one’s perfect.
@JShellinsky@pashmr@BowTiedBroke All good. As surveyors we follow in our predecessors footsteps. Another reason they introduced college education req’s is because the profession got really bad in the 70s-80s. If you retraced a survey from that period, you know 😂.
@JShellinsky@pashmr@BowTiedBroke The test is rigorous and so is the insurance already. The problem with the whole process is for the people outside looking in, it sucks. But those of us inside the system, understand its importance. 90% of jobs in the field don’t even require a degree anyway. Just being a PLS.
@hand2gland@pashmr@BowTiedBroke I’d agree. Experience is very important. A PLS with good experience is so rare, they’re basically interviewing the company. As the interviewer, you’re trying to sell yourself more than anything.
@JShellinsky@pashmr@BowTiedBroke I’m sure that’s some of it, who doesn’t want paid more but it truly is to protect the public. Real estate is the largest asset class in the country. It’s stewards should be held to an high standard.
@hand2gland@pashmr@BowTiedBroke Not at all. Surveying is a career that builds on experience. College is just the first step. And quite frankly a good filter. As someone who interviews and hires in the industry, I can certainly attest to that.
@pashmr@BowTiedBroke That’s why engineers, despite being able to get a PS in Ohio with just 16 college credits, typically don’t. They can’t stand to operate in a grey area a mathematical equation can’t solve the problem at hand. We aren’t lawyers but need our opinions to have solid legal footing.
@pashmr@BowTiedBroke Mathematics is probably the most important foundation of surveying but the art of surveying kicks in when 1+1 does not equal 2. Which happens quite often. The surveying education requirement is there to ensure a PLS can make decisions that protect real property.
@pashmr@BowTiedBroke Ohio is just one of the hardest states to survey in. Lots of complicated land systems. The degree requirement is intended to protect the professionalism of the profession. We implemented that BS+30 CH path to expand the eligibility pool w/o watering down education req’s.
