@TSoS_ Honestly we as Alien fans lost big time, this show is an atrocity to the franchise.Absolute dogshit writing, the most dreaded monster of cinema looks shit and is a guard puppy. Hell how didn't anyone see this?
The finale of #AlienEarth is among the most boring and dull TV finales I have seen in a long time. Not a single payoff works. Aside from the Lost Boys, no one gets a satisfying end to their storyline and even those kids are reduced to aura-farming for an entire episode to show their alleged growth. Beyond juvenile writing. Considering the important role they had throughout the season, Morrow's and Kirsh's ending was especially disappointing, as they are taken out of the picture completely, resolving absolutely nothing and mostly depriving the finale of its two strongest characters.
The barebones action often makes you forget this is an Alien series at all, which is very disappointing for a season finale, where some good Xenomorph action shouldn't be too much to ask. The creature still looks shit, its kills are destroyed by dozens of jump cuts and it's insane how almost no characters die here, despite coming face to face with the creature so often. A complete demystification of cinema's most lethal monster.
The Eyeball creature's full payoff is reserved for a potential second season, as is the resolution for what happens when Weyland Yutani arrives on the island. So many plot threads are left hanging in the air that you really can't help but feel deeply unsatisfied with this episode. You may call that a cliffhanger for the eventual second season, I call that an incomplete and lackluster manner of storytelling, where even the most basic set-ups don't find their conclusion.
As I've been saying for many weeks, the themes and topics this show tries to handle are never as interesting as the writers think they are and this non-conclusion just makes these flaws stand out even more. I just don't care enough about anyone here to wait 2 more years for a second season that delivers on the promises the first one made. One of the biggest disappointments of the year.
Alien Earth is another strong argument for why the 8-episode series format must die. The way this ~40 minute finale rushed towards its unsatisfying ending completely derailed the entire series.
