@JennBinis@nataliapetrzela Another key detail is the shift in the standards and some of the key tasks on the tests. Nick Tampio is spot on with his analysis of the ELA shifts in standards and tests. My son took both the old and new. Can give a side by side comparison.

@palan57@EdKrassen Perhaps even more concerning than what you consider book banning is a growing trend to change the authors words and original works. Ironically, 1984 is the number one “banned” book in the US. It should be required reading in all high schools. And not the comic book version.
@palan57@EdKrassen It would also be aided if we kept on topic and not twist into a narrative. I understand the purpose of graphic novels and adaptations.
@palan57@EdKrassen There is a more meaningful discussion to be had in regard to this book. This is something which I would think you would encourage, not taking dramatic headlines and twisting to fit a narrative. But we know what CC and social media has done to peoples’ critical thinking skills.
@palan57@EdKrassen What I also find interesting is that most picture book adaptations of classics are geared towards a younger audience. Couple more points: why, then, add in content that wasn’t in the original, that isn’t geared toward a younger audience and why carry in a high school library?
