The sadness of college being over didn’t hit me until i realized i won’t be dancing on elevated surfaces with my best friends anymore

I have 3 great kids.

But today my youngest (almost 5) made a big mistake in his kindergarten class.

He was unkind & said some mean things.
Then repeated them after being sternly warned.

After school he went to timeout.

Then, I went to talk to him.

I got down on his level & right away crocodile tears streamed down his eyes.

We talked about OWNING OUR MISTAKES & never blaming anyone but ourselves.

Take responsibility, learn from it, & don't repeat it.

We decided he & I would drive to the house of the person he said unkind things too & he would apologize in person.

He walked up to them, tears in eyes & said I'm so sorry & I'll never say those things again & then they hugged really big.

On the drive home I assured him daddy makes mistakes too & there's nothing he can do that would make me, my wife, & Jesus not love him.

I was very proud of him for TAKING OWNERSHIP of this mistake & making it right.

Parenting is hard.

It's the most important job we'll ever have though.

I impress on my kids there's never a reason to be UNKIND or make others feel bad.

I hope all parents take this role seriously too.

Especially FATHERS with sons.
