The best project an educator can work on this summer is themselves. Imagine the teacher you aspire to be & read/study/mediate/practice/work in pursuit of that vision #HipHopEd

Closing school is NOT an easy decision.
It impacts academics, access to student meals and support services, staff & family jobs, incomes, daycare needs, stability associated with our routines, ...
Local leaders are working hard to mitigate this impact.

The most successful school-based #SEL initiatives do not solely exist as stand alone or packaged curriculums but consist through the very nature of every interaction and relationship that is fostered between students, adults, and families. #SELeveryday#edchat#kidsdeserveit
A successful school is a healthy place for kids and a healthy place for everyone who works with kids, where ALL can grow, learn, and contribute.
Achievement, content, curriculum, programs, grades, and test scores are all lesser things.
A healthy environment for humans is #1.
Most parents are doing the best job they know how. Most parents love their kids, care about their education, and want them to have the best possible future. Sometimes, we just need to remind ourselves of that.
Today, I did it. I hated every second of it, but I did it. I pulled THAT scholar for 10 minutes and asked them questions about their life. We talked about them — not about me, not school, just about them.
And you know what? It was worth it. #RelationshipsMatter
Kids want to learn. They do. I’ve found that they become disruptive to their own desire to learn when I:
Talk too much
Take too long with instructions
Give complex instructions too fast
So basically, for their sake, I need to get out of the way.
Building relationships with your students is EVERYTHING. Don’t talk to me about anything else in education if relationships hasn’t been first, second, and third on your list of priorities.
