Wonwoo found fame as the lead Rapper and vocalist of the hugely popular chart-topping, top-selling, history-making K-Pop Group #SEVENTEEN, and its very successful record-breaking subunit JxW! He is an absolute force of brilliance and charisma, ranked by Billboard as the 13th Top K-Pop Act of 2025! Wonwoo is a masterful rapper whose sharp delivery and profound lyricism elevate every track! He's also a very talented and introspective songwriter and composer, and has written over 35 tracks, mostly performed by SEVENTEEN's hip-hop unit. Wonwoo was born in Changwon, and attended the School of Performing Arts in Seoul, graduating in 2015. He joined Pledis Entertainment in 2011, and trained as a singer and dancer for 4 years, taking part in the first season onwards of the online reality show Seventeen TV. On May 29, 2015, Wonwoo officially debuted as a member of Seventeen with the EP 17 Carat, becoming a member of its hip-hop unit. In 2021, Wonwoo and his bandmate Mingyu released the digital single "Bittersweet", featuring Lee Hi which hit #1 in 10 countries on iTunes! In 2022, Wonwoo released a cover of IU's "Knees", a tribute to his late mother. In 2023, he appeared in 3 episodes of Dive Studio's Mindset series, openly discussing mental health issues. In 2024, Wonwoo & Jeonghan became Seventeen's 2nd official subunit, Jeonghan X Wonwoo also known as JxW, and released the single album 'This Man' featuring 3 tracks, including Wonwoo's first solo self-written song "Leftover" which debuted at #1 on the daily K-Ballad chart of Genius Korea! 'This Man' sold 537,083 units in its 1st day, and 694,009 copies in its 1st 4 days, breaking the record for highest first week sales by a K-pop sub-unit! In one week, the album extended its record, with 787,046 copies sold! It has already been certified double platinum in Korea and Gold in Japan!
Wonwoo is also a Top Model and Fashion Icon. In 2022, he became the new sole model for Korean cosmetic brand Huxley and in 2023, he starred on the cover of Japanese fashion magazine Men's Non-no with DK. In July 2024, he was the cover star with Jeonghan of the same magazine, promoting 'This Man' In 2023, he was the Main event at the opening of Burberry's new pop-up store in Seoul and was also the star attraction at the Burberry 2025 Autumn/Winter fashion show at London Fashion Week in February 2025. In March 2024, Wonwoo made a star appearance at an event in Seoul for luxury suitcase brand Rimowa, and in April 2024, he became the new global model for Korean cosmetic brand The Face Shop. In June 2024, Wonwoo, S.Coups and Vernon, became the new global brand ambassadors for Indonesian snack brand Chitato. That same year, he was appointed as a global model/ambassador for The Face Shop, leveraging his skincare image, and took on roles with Allo Bank. In December 2024, he became the brand ambassador for Japanese optical brand Jins Eyewear.
Wonwoo actively supports charity through SEVENTEEN’s group initiatives and also through his own personal efforts. His involvement emphasizes youth causes, education, and animal welfare. As part of the group’s role as UNESCO’s first Goodwill Ambassadors for Youth (appointed 2024), he has contributed to youth empowerment programs worldwide, including a $1 million donation that funds the “Going Together” grant scheme for youth-led projects in creativity and well-being. Individually, he has participated in fan charity projects including donations to the MIRAL Welfare Foundation and donating personal items in an auction to support animal shelters like the Nabiya Cat Shelter.
