If AI surpasses us in every way, will humans accept being left behind—or start upgrading ourselves?

Today I saw a post from Elon Musk saying AI will soon outperform humans in every domain, leaving us far behind.

It stayed with me.

If AI takes over everything, does humanity’s future come down to eating, drinking, having fun, and enjoying everything robots create?

I don’t think so. There will always be people who refuse to settle for being outmatched.

I believe that as AI matures, an entirely new industry will emerge: using AI to transform human beings themselves.

The first goal, I suspect, will be extending human life.

A lifespan of less than a century can hardly satisfy the ambitions of the powerful and privileged. That is why I believe we may see the first people to escape aging sooner than we expect.

If we achieve indefinite lifespans, the next ambition seems inevitable: upgrading our bodies and minds.

AI’s processing speed, memory, and understanding of the world could become so far beyond ours that unenhanced humans simply cannot keep up.

And that raises an uncomfortable question: how long can a less capable intelligence remain in control of a vastly more capable one? At some point, could the relationship reverse?

I think that fear—alongside human ambition and curiosity—will drive enormous efforts to enhance ourselves, whether through genetic engineering, brain-computer interfaces, or merging with machines.

Once we can radically extend our lives and expand our abilities, the possible paths ahead become almost impossible to count.

今天看到马斯克发了一条帖子，说 AI 很快就会在所有方面超越人类，把人类远远甩在身后。

这让我陷入了长时间的思考。

当 AI 接管一切，未来的人类难道就只剩下吃喝玩乐，享受机器人创造的一切吗？

我觉得不会。一定会有一批人，不甘于屈居 AI 之下。

我相信，随着 AI 逐渐成熟，一定会出现一个新的产业方向：借助 AI，改造人类自身。

改造的方向是可以预见的。首要目标，我认为一定是延长人类寿命。毕竟，短短不到百年的时光，远远满足不了权力拥有者和社会精英的欲望与野心。因此，我相信，在不远的未来，也许就会出现第一批“永生者”。

当寿命不再是限制，下一个目标自然就是提升身体能力和脑力。

AI 的思考速度、记忆容量，以及对世界的认知，都可能达到人类望尘莫及的程度。那时的人类也一定会意识到：以有限的人类智能，去支配远比自己强大的 AI，到了某个阶段，可能就会出问题，甚至被反过来控制。

因此，我认为人类一定会不遗余力地强化自己的身体和大脑，无论是借助基因改造，还是走向“机械飞升”。

当寿命和能力的限制都被突破后，人类未来的发展路线，我觉得会有无数种可能。

Starting this week, passengers will be able to watch NFL games on their Starlink-enabled seatback screen.

Last month, I finally got to experience Starlink and a United flight for the first time. I was getting reliable Wi-Fi speeds of 370+ Mbps. It was awesome.
