🚨 Shinji Kagawa praises Japan’s rise and questions why Manchester United aren’t looking there more often:

“Look at Japan’s record since 2023. They’ve played over 40 games and lost only a handful, just 3 or 4. That’s incredible. There are players being called up today who barely know what it feels like to lose in a Japan shirt.

The talent coming through is unbelievable. Recently I visited an academy in Japan and what I saw genuinely surprised me. Not tricks for social media. Not skills for highlight reels. I’m talking about an actual 11v11 game. The technical level, the movement, the decision-making… it felt like I was watching football from the future.

That’s what makes me wonder: why aren’t more of the biggest clubs in the world looking there? Why aren’t clubs like Manchester United tapping into this talent pool more aggressively? Because a lot of these kids have the mentality United supporters love. They work, they listen and they’d run through a wall for the badge.

The funny thing is that I went there expecting to teach them about football. By the end, I realized there wasn’t much I could teach them about the game itself. So we ended up talking about mentality, discipline and handling pressure instead. Because talent gets you noticed, but character is what gets you to the top.”
