Azuki means different things to different people, but one thing has always been true: it started with the art.
The team sent me this pic from set while filming an Azuki TCG trailer today and I just keeping coming back to this Shao portrait rare card. I really love it.
Shao started as Azuki #187. Now she’s the main character of the story and world we’re building.
The sideways profile on the card is intentional. It’s a direct tribute to the original pfp collection. We explored a bunch of chase card directions, some flashier and some probably more what you're used to with other popular TCGs. but these portrait rares felt like the most Azuki. The art team had to go back to the drawing board a few times (sorry steamboy and Tim lol) but I'm very happy with how these turned out.
The intention was to take the silhouette that made people feel something in the original collection, and bring it into a new medium.
From pfp to card, from card to story, from story to world. ⛩️
The original collection is still in the work. You can see it in the art, and that’s one way we honor our roots.
A lot is happening in the garden.
Some people are bearish. Some people are bullish.
But one thing remains unchanged: why I'm here.
For the art. For the community.
