😭💔 I dropped my daughter at school that morning and went to work, never knowing that very day was my last day of seeing my beautiful daughter.

A few hours later, I received the most painful news a mother could ever hear — band!ts had attacked the school and kidnapped everyone, including my little girl and her teachers. Since then, my daughter has been in the forest, and I don't know if she is safe or even alive. 😭

BREAKING: We've urged United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres to urgently invoke Article 99 of the UN Charter and bring Nigeria’s escalating insecurity—marked by mass abductions, killings, attacks on civilians, mass displacement, and other grave human rights violations—to the attention of the UN Security Council.

Nigeria’s escalating insecurity and grave human rights violations are reflected in repeated abductions, killings, attacks on civilians, and mass displacement in Oyo, Benue, Borno, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara, and several other parts of the country.

The scale, persistence, and regional implications of the insecurity and grave human rights crisis in Nigeria pose a threat to international peace and security and risk aggravating existing threats in the region.

Article 99 of the UN Charter is designed precisely for situations in which emerging or ongoing crises require urgent preventive diplomacy, sustained international scrutiny, and coordinated international action.

Several years of violence and conflicts in several states have created appalling human suffering, physical destruction and collective trauma across Nigeria. Our appeal is grounded in the preventive mandate of the UN Charter and the urgent need to address a rapidly deteriorating situation in the country.

Article 99 of the UN Charter provides that: ‘The Secretary-General may bring to the attention of the Security Council any matter which in his opinion may threaten the maintenance of international peace and security.’

Placing the escalating insecurity and grave human rights violations in Nigeria on the Security Council’s formal agenda would strengthen the credibility and effectiveness of the United Nations system in fulfilling its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security.

It would also ensure sustained international attention to attacks on civilians, including abductions, killings, and displacement.

The crisis in Nigeria is not merely a domestic law-enforcement issue. Its effects increasingly implicate regional peace and security through cross-border movement of armed groups and weapons, large-scale displacement, growing instability extending beyond Nigeria’s borders, and weakening human rights protection and rule-of-law institutions.

Today makes it 16 days that these people have been held captive in the bush, under heavy rain and unbearable sun, with no food and no water.

Out of the 7 teachers who were abducted, Mr. Oyedokun M. O. has sadly passed away. Six teachers remain in captivity with the children.

Out of those six, another person has already been picked to send a new message, the same way they used Mr. M. O. Oyedokun.

These children are our future. They are the leaders of tomorrow. Among them are future doctors, governors, senators, and honorable leaders.

Please do not allow their lives and dreams to be destroyed.

God, arise and rescue these children. Deliver them from the hands of these evil people.

Please share this message so it can reach everyone, including the international community, and so they can see the pain and suffering these families are going through.

May God heal the sick child and safely deliver all the captives from this terrible situation.

Why I ran away from Nigeria
My son went to school, and on his way back home he fell and hit his head on a concrete wall. He became unconscious.

He was very close to the house when it happened. He had a physical injury and lost some blood. Thankfully, a retired nurse who lived next to our house helped us stabilize him.

She immediately told us to take him to the general hospital. When we got there, the nurses went to call the doctor, who was hesitant to come. We had to shout before she finally, sluggishly, came to inspect him.

She didn’t do anything. She told us to take him to UCH straight away. We drove at such speed, as if trying to hold his breath for him.

When we got to UCH, we met a woman inside a tricycle in the emergency section. We queued behind her.

Three other vehicles arrived with emergency patients. The doctor came out and told us there was no space — the beds were full. He said we would have to wait until some became vacant.

The woman we had met in the tricycle died before us, and her people took her away in tears while cursing the hospital.

The other two drivers left to look for care somewhere else. The doctor told us we were free to seek medical attention elsewhere, but the hospital would not be held responsible for anything that happened. He repeated that he could not tell us when a bed would be available. His words: “It could be in the next 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 3 or 5 hours.”

We waited for more than 4 hours. At some point we had to make a scene. Another doctor came out and told us to go and buy an emergency pack.

We waited another hour before a doctor came to examine him. By then his breathing had weakened. He said my son’s condition was now critical and that they needed a stretcher urgently. Five minutes later they brought one and wheeled him into the emergency ward.

Five minutes after that, he was declared dead.

The reality hit me: there is no regard for life in Nigeria. I was broken 💔

I asked the doctor one simple question, which he could not answer: If my son had been one of your children, would he have stayed in the car for more than 4 hours while you claimed there were no vacant beds in the emergency unit?

He was our only child in Nigeria. That was the day we started planning our relocation from Nigeria.

As I speak now, 12 years have passed since we left. We are yet to have another child, and all medical efforts have not yielded results.

My son should not have died at all. We helplessly watched life leave his body.
