New today: @thecfhk released a report I co-authored with @frances_hui that exposes systemic abuse inside Hong Kong’s prisons against both political prisoners and the general inmate population.

Key findings include:
– Routine beatings and sexual violence, including against juveniles
– Medical neglect and unsafe, unsanitary living conditions
– Psychiatric "treatment" used as punishment
– Prolonged solitary confinement beyond legal limits
– A complaint system engineered to prevent accountability

Much of this has never been reported. We interviewed dozens of former prisoners, many of whom had never spoken publicly before. Their testimonies reveal a system that enforces control through abuse and neglect as much as through confinement itself.

In a companion op-ed in the New York Post, I describe what I experienced myself as a political prisoner, and why these abuses are not exceptions but part of a deliberate system.
