@Maria61964012 Many newer artists tend to use autotune and people tend to believe that it is because these artists cannot sing without it. I know of many artists who can sing really well without it but use it anyways. I feel that they use it because it creates a consistent sound. #POPMUSF21
@Brandon84872063 I agree. In recent years people seem to be attending more concerts for the experience. It also seems common for people to attend these shows despite not being a fan of the performer or being familiar with their music. A lot has to do with the ability to boast #POPMUSF21
People attend concerts for more than the music. Present day shows are an experience and people attend to be a part of it. New technologies like autotune may play a role as the music quality will still be good despite the sound being live. #POPMUSF21
@kilfoy_claudia I think schlock music is rightfully named. As it is not performed by the original artists and by someone from a different culture who have no connection to this culture, I also consider it to be cheap, defective, and inferior (the meaning behind the Yiddish term) #POPMUSF21
@JordanN54312489 It's definitely important to give credit where it's due. White people have wrongfully stolen so much from other cultures. As music is such a big aspect in many, it should be off limits without proper credit #POPMUSF21
I don't think it is enough to dismiss the music and it may be valued for other reasons. However, this music may be considered schlock because it is appropriating a different culture. Due to this, it may be seen as less genuine and therefore "cheap" and "inferior". #POPMUSF21
@spurrell27 I feel as though the use of a breaking voice creates textures and dimensions in the song that wouldn't exist without it. The use of this technique makes Charles sound much more heartfelt and a listener would truly believe what he is trying to share in the song. #POPMUSF21
@JsweersSweers Listeners really get a good understanding of the emotions Charles is feeling when they listen to these components of the song. The use of a breaking voice makes the song sound so much more genuine and it achieves his goal of transferring his feelings to the listeners #POPMUSF21
I think Ray Charles used a breaking voice in his song I've got a woman to create emotion in his vocals. It signifies that he feels strongly about the person he is singing about. Similar to other blues songs and artists, he wants his voice to sound raw and genuine. #POPMUSF21
@wjneville31 While this is true. The creation of streaming services has allowed us to pay a set fee/month for any selection of music while CDs and tapes would cost $15 per album. This may contribute to social class status as some people may be able to afford streaming over physical #POPMUSF21
@HannahE09480620 I have noticed that the streaming service used may cause some debate between users. Spotify users tend to judge/criticize Apple Music users and vice versa. This may possibly contribute to a user's identity in some way. #POPMUSF21
Streaming services have made it easier to listen to music. We can now listen to almost any song without having to buy the album/CD. It has made sharing music with others easier as we can use joint playlists which allows us to share a part of us that we couldn't before. #POPMUSF21
@cassieehannahh It seems as though today's music artists are more concerned about making a popular song than being realistic. They use these aspects to achieve their goals but in reality, it creates a false narrative about what is considered a fulfilled life. #POPMUSF21
@spurrell27 I feel that it has become more common for artists to do this. Most of today's songs that are considered "hits" contain at least one line that mentions these aspects #POPMUSF21
Most of todays pop music revolves around love or finding the perfect person. It has created a false need to fall in love and find that person. Pop music propagates a simplified form of music as artists are more concerned about creating a hit song than sending a message #POPMUSF21
