@CreggSiobhan I enjoyed how you pointed out the positive side of new technologies & how it can add to the music & even live performances. Most people think of the typical bad autotune that alters a voice to sound better but don't focus on how it can alter the music in a positive way
@flyangler777 I agree Chris, live performances/concerts allow for a unique listening experience that cannot be replicated by merely listening to the recorded song. It is more about the experience and emotion than the technical aspect of the music (similarity to recording)
I agree&disagree live music is still a huge part of music nowadays wether its a concert, festival,or a small show at a bar but new technologies have impacted this, Autotune for example has created noticeable discrepancies between studio recordings and live performances. #POPMUSF21
@wegoagane I agree! They stole theses songs without giving credit which diminishes the value of the songs and the meaning behind it, which was often rooted in culture. Schlock is not genuine and shows a blatant disregard for the original artists and their meaning behind their song
@Austin_St_Croix Yes, loads of people today cover songs as a way to praise artist but unlike Schlock they give credit where its due which is the reason schlock has the rep it has in history. They stole other artists content without giving them credit they were owe which is wrong
Schlock is an excellent example of Cultural theft, white artists using creative property of artists of colour, popularizing it w/o giving credit or recognition. While these white artist should still be recognized for their talent the fact it was stolen material is wrong #POPMUSF21
@oliviagarrett92 I really like your point about giving a more authentic sound! Nowadays a lot of artists are overly produced and hearing the 'imperfections' in voices such as ray uses vocal breaks allows you to appreciate his authentic voice.
@jddhealey Great point Jonathan. When signers broadcast emotion through the use of vocal techniques it allows for a much better listening experience and can really feel the artist's emotion behind not only the lyrics but the composition.
@qdmt_71 @musikathi93 This is a very interesting fact, I had no idea this track that far back. Always cool to know more knowledge about musical history like this! Thanks!
Ray Charles used a 'Breaking Voice' as a way to better engage listeners showing raw emotion & his unique vocal techniques & tone. This also allowed him to showcase the techniques used in the musical styles such as gospel & African which heavily influenced Charles music.#POPMUSF21
@EllyFurukawa@BrophyGriffin Yes, this 'high-end' tech has really impacted others' views of their peer's social class. Those who can afford or have $200+ wireless AirPods are 'cool' or 'wealthy' while they see those who cannot afford them or who simply don't want them as below them for not have them
The creation of these new listening technologies has made music a lot more accessible. With streaming apps, you have access to thousands of songs and artists allowing for a more diverse music taste whereas before this was much more difficult and a lot more costly. #POPMUSF21
@MarkStack12 I agree with your statement how many audiences are more focused on the rhythm and beat rather than the lyrics as most of the time the lyrics aren't paid much attention to and if the song is 'catchy' or has a good beat or tune they enjoy it #POPMUSF21
False needs such as drugs and hypersexualization are present in today popular music. I wouldn't say pop. music is 'Dumbed down' but does appeal to a passive audience as there is less focus on lyrics and complex music as many listeners do not care #POPMUSF21
