A few days ago she was inside an Indian community building that displayed a HSS signboard. HSS worships Golwalkar, who drew direct inspiration from Hitler & openly declared that India belongs to Hindus & minorities should face treatment similar to the Nazis' persecution of Jews.
Sikhs welcome @elonmusk to launch Starlink in India. At least launch in Punjab. We need it the most. The government shuts down our Internet whenever we protest for our rights.
Bhai Sukha Singh & Bhai Jinda Singh — The Death Sentence That Became History 🖤🙏
On 10 August 1986, former Indian Army Chief General A. S. Vaidya was assassinated in Pune. Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda were convicted for their roles in the killing, which they associated with Operation Blue Star and its consequences. Sukha admitted to firing the shots, while Jinda admitted to driving the motorcycle. Both were sentenced to death, and their sentences were upheld by the Supreme Court.
But the moment that continues to be remembered in Sikh historical accounts is what happened when the death sentence was announced.
According to accounts attributed to their jail letters, the two Singhs did not ask the judge for mercy or a reduced sentence. They stood by their actions and convictions. When the sentence was pronounced, they raised slogans expressing their political beliefs and accepted the outcome.
On the night of the sentencing, the judge reportedly struggled to sleep. He told the lawyers that he had never before sentenced anyone to death and that he felt a deep affection for the two men. He reportedly said that he wanted to keep their photographs in his home.
In a particularly striking part of the account, the judge later asked for their photographs so he could put them up at his house. The story describes him becoming emotional while expressing his feelings about them.
On 9 October 1992, Bhai Sukha Singh and Bhai Jinda Singh were executed at Pune Jail.
Whatever one's view of their actions, the story of the sentencing remains a remarkable and sobering episode in their history: two men who accepted the ultimate legal consequence of their actions, and a judge who, according to the accounts, was personally moved by the men standing before him.
The sentence was pronounced in a courtroom, but the story of that day did not end when the judge left the bench.
