In 2008, artist Kehinde Wiley received voicemail messages suggesting that Michael Jackson was trying to reach him.
"I initially ignored the messages, sincerely thinking they were a prank," Wiley explained.
Upon further investigation, he discovered the calls were genuine. Michael Jackson had taken an interest in commissioning a piece after seeing Wiley’s work at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
After discussing the artistic vision over the phone, they agreed that Wiley would photograph Michael striking a pose inspired by the old masters, particularly drawing from the Portrait équestre du roi Philippe II, the famous equestrian portrait of the Spanish monarch Philip II.
Impressed by Jackson’s profound understanding of the painting process, Wiley sent him reference images but eventually lost contact.
The commissioned work was still in its early stages when Wiley learned of Michael’s passing and chose to complete the piece as a tribute.

Scooby and Shaggy coming out dressed as hairstylists: and just WHERE have you been? You’re late for your appointment!
The monster that was chasing them:
government agents go into low income neighborhoods and drop off unregistered firearms meant for the US army to fuel gang violence and turf wars within our cities
all the "big homies" in these neighborhoods dont get arrested, they are federal informants and get young kids to do the dirty work
this is like some episode of a show where the comic relief side character is separated from the group and when they find him he's the leader of a planet or something.
Well in the Remember The Time video, it was bad enough that the pharoah was disrespected in his own home by an intruder and betrayed by his staff, but the lyrics themselves were FILTHY!
"In the park, on the beach, you & me, IN SPAIN"!
Oh it was OVERRRRRR
