ZIMBABWE: SUFFERING FOR THE MANY, LUXURY FOR THE FEW

My heart breaks every time I think of the country I love. Zimbabwe is a land blessed with fertile soil, hardworking people, and so much potential,yet today it is a place where ordinary people struggle just to survive.

In our hospitals, there are almost no medicines. Mothers go to give birth knowing there may be no painkillers, no antibiotics, no basic supplies if something goes wrong. Sick people lie on floors or wait for help that never comes. Meanwhile, we see people like Wicknell Chivayo and Kudakwashe Tagwirei travelling in private jets, living in luxury, claiming they face hardship while ordinary citizens starve.

There is no food for many families. Children go to school hungry, without shoes, without books,turned away because their parents cannot pay even the smallest fees. I know this pain because I lived it: I walked to school barefoot, I was sent away because we had no money, I went to sleep with an empty stomach more times than I can count.

I would give anything to go back home to Zimbabwe. But I cannot. Not yet. Things are too hard. Too many people are suffering while a tiny handful live like kings. This is not the Zimbabwe we deserve. This is not the future we fought for.

We demand hospitals with supplies, schools that welcome every child, food on every table, and leaders who serve the people,not themselves. We will not stay silent until our country works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.

Today in Leicester, the UK ROHR Midlands Branch met to discuss the ongoing crisis in Zimbabwe. We strongly oppose the imposition of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3) without giving Zimbabweans the opportunity to decide through a referendum. Constitutional changes should reflect the will of the people, not be forced upon them.
