Thick impasto strokes build the forms of weathered buildings, boats, and dock structures, while reflections ripple across the water, blurring the boundary between land and sea.

Marsden’s painterly approach—favoring mood and movement over precise detail—places this work firmly within the late-19th-century shift toward Impressionistic and post-Impressionistic coastal scenes. The Lucille Roberts Collection hails from one of New York’s most historically and architecturally significant residences. This 21,000-square-foot, seven-story French Gothic masterpiece was built in 1915 by famed architect Charles P. H. Gilbert for retail magnate Frank W. Woolworth. Owners include: Barbara Hutton’s mother, Mrs. Cary Grant. Features: classic limestone façade, monumental dormers, palatial details, soaring 14-foot-high ceilings, intricate mosaic flooring, and a sweeping master staircase lit by a stained-glass skylight. An architectural masterpiece filled with the finest furnishings and art. It’s worth its very own visit!

The namesake of the collection, Lucille Roberts (1943–2003), was an impressive 20th-century woman. An immigrant to America, she was a pioneer in women’s fitness, building the Lucille Roberts health club chain - a multi-million-dollar empire with over 50 locations. A businesswoman who made fitness affordable and accessible exclusively for women. The collection reflects her personal taste, her success, and the grandeur of the legendary home she occupied.

19th century Louis XV carved and gold-painted decorated bidet, 19” H x 21” W X 14” D. **From the Duke and Duchess of Windsor sale, Sotheby’s, New York, 1997.**
and now “The Susie Hilfiger Collection.”

The word bidet originates from the French word for “pony,” as its shape resembled a small horse that one straddled to use. The invention likely emerged in both France and Italy around the same time, as people sought improved hygiene solutions. In the 1700s, regular bathing was a luxury, and bidets offered a practical way to stay clean.

It’s a bidet fit for a king or queen- but you can use it as a flower stand if you prefer 😉

Scholar and politician, Henry Cabot Lodge was born in Boston in 1850. He received one of the first PhD degrees in history and government from Harvard and became a professor of history as well as editor of the North American Review. In the 1880s he ran for political office, first in the state legislature and then in the U.S. Congress. Elected to the United States Senate in 1892, he remained in office until his death in 1924.
