The woke option to support is clearly England
They have to face:
- fascist colony that tried to steal their land decades ago
- global colonial power that sent the largest fleet in history to crush their faith
- nation that imposed their rulers and culture on them for a millenia
@redrumlisa You don't believe in labour solidarity. To be the children of British miners and become more right wing and harmful to the cause that gave them their rights is shameful. Unconditional support for peoples has been core to labour movements since before the workers international.
@redrumlisa Regardless of the fact neither are the people as a whole, who deserve consistent support and have long supported us before their times of need (They quite literally provided training in organisational tactics for prolonged labour action). the PLO were also known as terrorists.
-building, under shelling and constant small arms fire, to pass the books and papers out of the building before they would be burned in the fire
Most of the collection was saved - people often understand that artifacts are irreplaceable and are willing to die to protect history
The "Archaeology is not a soft profession. Sometimes the people who guard the past die for it." Bit reminds me of how during the siege of Sarajevo, when the national library was shelled with incendiaries, the librarians and locals made a human chain going right into the burning-
In 2015, ISIS captured Palmyra and demanded its head of antiquities reveal where the treasures were hidden.
He was 81 years old. He refused.
Khaled al-Asaad had spent over 50 years excavating and protecting Palmyra, the caravan city that once rivalled Rome in the Syrian desert.
He learned Aramaic to read its inscriptions. He raised his children among its ruins and named his daughter Zenobia, after its rebel queen.
Before the city fell, he helped evacuate hundreds of artefacts to safety. ISIS interrogated him for weeks to find them. But he gave them nothing.
They executed him in the square and left his body among the columns he had spent his life defending.
Archaeology is not a soft profession. Sometimes the people who guard the past die for it.
@Cassperture@4STR3LL4 Yeah pretty much, you don't really get anything for effort on social media. If I were still posting much of myself I'd be endlessly jealous of YOUR audience. It's a random hierarchy. Only the most attractive and relentlessly posting people are guaranteed something
Although I condemn the use of all effigies flags or symbols representing nations or people on bonfires, I’m curious as to how it’s acceptable to use and burn political figures faces, Irish flags etc every year and nobody gets arrested (from memory) , yet a model of mosque representative of Islam gets you arrested. https://t.co/5cBB9RcqrP
