Today, RBC celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of 20 NCD Surveillance Officers who completed the 3-month NCD Frontline Field Epidemiology Training Program under the SPARK-NCD initiative.

The program equips frontline health workers with field epidemiology skills to strengthen #NCD surveillance and promote the use of data for evidence-based #prevention and #control of non-communicable diseases.

At the graduation ceremony, DG @CMuvunyithanked @AfricaCDC and other partners for their continued support, urging graduates to apply their skills to strengthen #surveillance systems, improve data quality, and bring high-quality NCD services closer to communities.

Imagine waking up to ten missed calls. You return one of them only to hear, "I have a wedding coming up and I need financial support."

Sometimes i find myself asking, if you are ready to get married, why not plan a wedding that matches your financial means? Why take on obligations that immediately require emergency fundraising from friends and relatives?

Marriage is not a competition and a wedding is not a show. There is nothing wrong with having a simple ceremony that you can comfortably afford. In fact, starting a marriage without unnecessary financial pressure may be one of the best gifts a couple can give themselves.

Perhaps it is time we stopped measuring weddings by their size and began measuring them by the strength of the commitment behind them. We need to be more realistic, live within our means and stop putting ourselves under pressure to impress others. A successful marriage matters far more than an expensive wedding.

Le 23 mai 2026, le film Ben’Imana de Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo reçoit la Caméra d’Or et le Prix FIPRESCI des critiques internationales de films, au Festival de Cannes.

Le 2 juin 2026, L’Archive, le monument conçu par Grada Kilomba en mémoire des victimes du génocide perpétré contre les Tutsi, est inauguré par les présidents @PaulKagame et @EmmanuelMacron, ainsi que la Première Dame @FirstLadyRwanda, à Paris, sur les bords de la Seine.

À travers ces deux œuvres, l’art devient à la fois mémoire et transmission.

S’y inscrivent les questions de justice, et de la parole, qui libère et aide à panser les blessures du passé.

Mais surtout de la responsabilité de transmettre aux générations futures, l’histoire de ceux qui ne sont plus.

Ainsi, par le cinéma, comme par la pierre, leur mémoire demeure vivante et continue d’habiter notre présent.

She called for vigilance, noting that “prevention is not a slogan; it is a duty and a shared responsibility. Speak up, silence can be perceived as acquiescence”.

At James Madison University, thirty‑two years after the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, my keynote on Kwibuka and “Never Again” emphasized that we are no longer debating what happened in Rwanda—we are responsible for how we respond to it. I traced how a colonial, racist ideology constructed Tutsi as foreigners, how decades of dehumanization, conspiracy theories and impunity normalized violence, and how this culminated in a state‑organized genocide. I showed that denial—whether through “double genocide” claims, vague labels like “Rwandan genocide,” or blaming victims for their own destruction—is not a misunderstanding but a continuation of genocide ideology.

I also connected these histories to the present, especially in the #DRC, where the same myths and hate speech are being recycled against Congolese Tutsi communities and amplified by digital media and state rhetoric. I argued that “never again” must mean defending historical truth, recognizing dangerous speech early, confronting allies who enable genocidal ideologies, and refusing narratives that punish those under threat while excusing those who spread hate. Kwibuka is not only about remembering the genocide against the Tutsi; it is a call to turn memory into concrete responsibility—through research, teaching, policy, and solidarity with communities still facing genocidal danger today.
