A proposed bill sponsored by Dr. James Nyikal seeks to introduce mandatory DNA verification of parentage at birth, with the cost proposed to be covered by the government.
The Child Identity and Family Integrity Bill, 2026 also proposes the establishment of a National DNA Registry to securely store genetic records, allowing children to access information relating to their identity and family affiliation as they grow older.
The proposal is expected to proceed to the National Assembly for consideration, subject to the parliamentary process. The bill states that its objective is to protect every childβs right to identity and family affiliation.
