1. Nas (prod. DJ Premier) - 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩-𝙔𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 - Polarizing like most Nas albums. I fall on the side of Primo produced out of Nas the best collection of raps we’ve heard in the rap Shakespeare's restless career.

2. Roc Marciano (prod. DJ Premier) - 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 - Marc brims disgust at bad taste mackin, rappin & fashion while Primo cooks up the tastiest platter of his prolific 2025.

3. Chance the Rapper - 𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙍 𝙇𝙄𝙉𝙀 - A comeback full of brilliant songwriting & Big Two rapping. Post-Big Day, post-divorce, post-etc - Chance's joy remains, worldworn but defiant.

4. Bruiser Wolf (prod Harry Fraud) - 𝙈𝘼𝘿𝙀 𝘽𝙔 𝘿𝙊𝙋𝙀 - Mining for punchline the wastelands that warped him, Detroit wordplayer Wolf warps coke rap to comedic & creative heights.

5. De La Soul - 𝘾𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙣 𝙄𝙣 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙠𝙮 - Awing is the care and deep reverence permeating this effort, crafted in honor of their recently passed group member Dave.

6. Slick Rick - 𝙑𝙄𝘾𝙏𝙊𝙍𝙔 - Gravitating 1st person tales of rent collecting & a filicidal politician. What compels more - Rick's stream of consciousness & free association in word & flow.

7. Clipse - 𝙇𝙚𝙩 𝙂𝙤𝙙 𝙎𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙀𝙢 𝙊𝙪𝙩 - Reunited after 16 years, the Thorntons switch roles. With Malice now ruthless triggerman & Push spotting, they hit all marks that make a GREAT album.

8. Little Simz - 𝙇𝙤𝙩𝙪𝙨 - Post toxic creationship, Simz - somber but lighter on her feet. - captains her ship out superproducer Inflo's gilded harbor into the emotive & the Nigerian.

9. Dave - 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙮 𝙒𝙝𝙤 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙖𝙧𝙥 - Exquisitely self aware, Britain's best male rapper wrestles with his worldly success for a place on the right side of history.

10. Tyler, the Creator - 𝘿𝙊𝙉’𝙏 𝙏𝘼𝙋 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙂𝙇𝘼𝙎𝙎 - After some Important albums, Tyler dives into mud on the face fun. 80s soul, Pharell, ATL bass all get into the spirit.

In '25, noir rap slumped as its inspiration - golden age legends - did stellar work, mostly through Mass Appeal. Brit powerhouses powered out greatness. Led by Bruiser Brigade, weirdness flourished. Weird rage rap is what the kids are doin - nothin meaty in album format, though.
